So yes the feeling is the same as it was in BI HL.
For now, after a few maps, I'm conquished.
I wonder if the dev did his work of promotion, I couldn't find a single review of the game.
EDIT: Yeah History Line seems very similar and quite similar game engine than Battle Isle.
I wouldn't spite on a modernized version of the Battles Isle simultaneous turns approach. But ok I get it's a difficult decision to take in contemporary context. Battle World Kronos gave up do it. I'm close to buy it with the only question at what shop. :-)
But that would be so cool to have a few more feedback, looks like for net reviews it won't be before some time and with the risk of rushed review that try hide the rush.
I have History line on GOG, and still play it. but would certainly like to get a more modern version .
IMO I prefer the BI phase based system
Spirit of War is much more like a light Battle Worlds Kronos, it's pleasant and I enjoy play it (only 6 maps from 1st campaign) but for now it's a bit easy. Dev should improve the AI or at least add play modes with handicap for the player.
For the turn based system:
- There's AP for moving only and AP for either action (attack, dig or fill a trench) either moving.
- Some unit (artilleries) can only either move either shoot. Most other can spend some movement points and attack and then spend more movement points, or can use AP for attack for extra movement.
- The facing of unit influence the combats for example get attacked from back is a disaventadge, but change facing cost no AP.
- The more units surround an enemy unit the more this enemy unit is disadvantaged.
- There's 5 types of terrain, one can be build/unbuild it's trench, terrain influence movements, defense for some, attack for some, damages for some.
- There's 3 types of attack, ground, air, sea.
- When a unit attack the attacked unit fire back, the number of fire back isn't limited.
- Unit damaged does less damages when attacking.
- Turns are count but maps haven't a number of turn limit.
Otherwise there's various types of units vehicles, armored, transports, plane. In buildings you can repair/heal. Factories allow build. Each side has a HQ and lost it is lost the map, the other way is kill all enemy units. And during a map, units can gain xp and level up 5 time.
