Locoland

Locoland

Remaking a dead game?
I wonder if there would be any interest in developers now creating a game like this again. Something simple, easy to make, and not meant to be game of the year- but meant to be fun. I hate most modern games, I used to play Steamland / Locoland when I was a kid for hours and hours, back when I had a box computer and games had to be simple or they wouldn't run. The only thing I wish for now playing this again is more.

I'm an artist / graphic designer myself and have participated in a fair few very low effort game jams, and I know small creators and indie groups can produce something to this level very easily with the right amount of effort and time, the key is really just finding the right people and the right ideas.

Any thoughts or opinions? Would you also like to see a new version of Steamland pop up?

What a coincidence that we were both thinking the same thing haha. That's great! I wonder how difficult a task you think it looks from a dev point of view - I'm assuming it would be relatively simple with how the game works currently, but I am not a coder or dev so I could be entirely wrong. If I'm right though, we might even get away with a small team working on this as a bit of a passion project or even a lengthier game jam submission!
I would love to be part of something like that. Long ago i made model for the Gun in blender. A friend made recoil animation and some basic color pallete for it and thats where it ended. When it comes to making games the only thing i could do would be play-test. Glad to see ideas like that for the game still around.

Play testing and ideas are super important to game dev, I’m sure if this does end up happening that would be super helpful. I’m wondering if it might be worthwhile making a small discord group to gather some people interested and see where this goes.

You can sure give it a shot. I added a friend from some other Steamland discussion. i'll let him know about it if you want
Epic!

For anyone interested, here's a little makeshift Discord group. Let's see what happens, I don't think it's anything about a dev group right now, should probably just be viewed as a steamland discord group to discuss the game and what people liked n maybe future ideas. That's the first step. Non-devs welcome, as anyone can have ideas and be passionate. Devs come later.

Soon enough you'll just be able to tell an A.I. to watch and/or play locoland and reverse engineer and reprogram it exactly.

Then starting from there you can tell the A.I. how you want to change the game to your liking.

things like this are coming very soon.

Why because it's the only way to get this game re-made, or have our ideas made (that we can't do ourselves and no one is going to do for us) ?

Your previous comment saying you were literally thinking the exact same thing, wanting this long dead and gone game remade.... you're not going to do it right? and you're a programmer (I'm not and I would bet the OP also isn't)

But..... A.I. can suck it because.... all forms of A.I. must always be bad forever right?
(I'm the first one to come out against MOST A.I. purely because of evil corporations using it to purely destroy privacy and spy on people's lives.... whereas what I'm talking about would ideally just be offline software you run yourself without using any online datacenter)
