DEV ANNOUNCEMENT: Server Shutdown & Game removed from sale
Hello everyone. Apologies for a lack of communication regarding the game.

Unfortunately we took the decision a few months ago to close down Riff Racer and remove it for sale. This is due to the game not earning enough revenue to cover the server costs and hosting anymore, as well as ongoing development costs to keep adding features and improvements.

It's been a great six years seeing you all play the game! It was a labour of love to begin with, but everything has its day (for now).

We'd love to get to a point where we can resurrect the game in the future, if we can find people willing to work on it with us. But until then it will remain off sale and offline mode only.

We've already seen in the forum that someone has created a custom server for those people still wishing to play with their existing copies, which is great and fills us with confidence that there's a community who would be open to a new version of the game in future.

Once again sorry to those who love playing Riff Racer.

Thanks for the years of support.

its a shame to see the game shut down, and i hope to see it come back in the future with updates. will the inability to create new tracks be fixed?

How slim are the chances of the server software being released on Steam as a Steam Tool / Dedicated Server Software?

That's really unfortunate.

MAKE AN OFFLINE VERSION!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
why don't you put server and client on github? maybe someone will bring back online the original good server

The least they could have done would be a patch for the game to go offline. Shame.

Not even thinking about offline solutions...
Good thing there's a heartful member writing custom server DLL for us.

sad
Just when I was in the mood to race through my playlist again. <sigh>

Any chance of updating this for single player??

Yes, PLEASE something like this. I'd be happy with my own scores being tracked so I could at least race against myself.

Would it be possible to release the code so we can mod it ourselves?

rebane2001's server is a great starting point but I am working on my own .NET server implementation so I can add some features I want, like Last.fm scrobbling support (which is already working! ...although Album title can't be scrobbled since the game doesn't read that from the files) and a local database to keep track of scores. I could post this on github but it'll be pretty nasty, since it's a quick hack job to get it working rather than something meant for public consumption.

Hopefully you can come back someday! :D All i would have wished was a proper Unicode support so that i could have played Japanese songs because i don't want to make copies of them with romaji metadata just for one game. XD And getting crowned with scrambled metadata instead, just... nope. XD I think based on what i have heard on the community Discord server(Rhythm Racers) i'm in, there would have been multiple people wanting to help keep the game alive longer or contribute to it. :D The devs would have been welcome to join the server too(or turn it into an official one?). Well i'd say you still are. XD Even if some members have left since the server is kinda dead for understandable reasons. :P Well i'm not leaving though. It's good that it's out there still.
