Crazy Machines 3

How does this compare against the competition?
Hello,

currently I play Contraption Maker and so far physics and puzzle-design/gameplay convince me. Would Crazy Machines 3 be worth to buy and is it at least on a similar level?

CM3 is much more complex, with more complex physics, 3d space, an advanced custom parts editor etc. Obviously, contraption maker has other, different strong points.

Are the physics repeatable? There were quite some inconsistencies in Crazy Machines: Elements. And how do you rate the puzzle quality?

Some months ago I asked the developers about determinism. They said they made it as deterministic as they could, but I remember them saying due to physics parallelization it wasn't fully deterministic. Still, I haven't tested it., but I haven't had problems with the puzzles.

Regarding puzle quality I'd say it's high. Not only the puzzles are gorgeous due to the graphics and the 3D elements, but the complex physics interaction create some creative interesting ways to solve puzzles. Also, since you can create custom parts, the puzzles can make you place completely new pieces you haven't seen before. I have yet to play them all.

I actually prefer Contraption Maker because I used to play the old one back in the day and I kind of enjoy the basic layout, plus harder achievements and more depth lol.

Hi Yeish,

we differentiate between determinism and what we call spatial dependence.
Determinism is 100%. I don't know any case of intdeterminism, every time you run the machine, you'll get the same result.
Spatial dependence is something different. It might still happen that you place or remove an object and the simulation behaves slighly different. We fought and fight this as much as possible, but due to the very nature of physics engines you can't get rid of it completely. There are a lot of caches and optimizations going on before and during simulation and even a very small difference in the initial state can cause a large (snowball) effect.

As long as it doesn't impact the gameplay too much it would be fine I guess. ;) I'll wishlist Crazy Machines 3 and buy it if I have enough free time. :)

What a great developer.
