Some tipps:
dont build too many buildings at once because resources may get divided up and you dont have enough to finsh all at once
keep an eye on you population (upper left corner) and add housing if you get close to your maximum
most buildings you do not need to build duplicates of just connect everything with roads resources will arrive eventually even in not optimised layouts
if you still get stuck just deactivate your least important buildings one by one until it gets running again
A good starting buildorder to set you up if u want:
Woodcutter close to some trees (wait for completion)
Quarry near some rocks (wait for completion)
Toolcrafter (wait) 2 Axes and 2 Hammers
Sawmill and Stonemason (wait)
2 Fisherman at a lake or coast if possible +craft 2 fishingpoles at your toolcrafter
now add whatever you want and see what happens
There are some things that IMO don't work as they should. For example you might build iron axes for your soldiers and then a woodcutter picks it up instead. (Maybe it's possible to make that woodcutter unemployed again, so that he/she drops the axe and hopefully a soldiers picks it up... I don't really remember that part.) Also sometimes soldiers attack stuff that's slightly out of their range, which doesn't quite make sense. But apart from that I can't really recall any stuff that happens by accident. However, I haven't played the game in a long time.
