Cultures - Northland

Getting started
Hello guys, like many of you I have had alot of trouble getting the game to even start. Well I have used all the info here on the fourms and was able to get the game to start. I am even now able to adjust the resoultion. The steps I took will follow shortly. First off after I got the game to work i deleted everything by hand and set all the steam settings back to default by hand this was to make sure id get a clean install seeing as how the steam uninstall left some game settings entact. I repeted this a few times untill I knew exactly how to make it work 100% (at least for my setup YMMV). I tried my hardest to make the guide as user friendly as possible. Without further ado...

1. Install the game

2. Open steam and navigate to the game in your library select the game ie northland or 8th wonders and right click. Select properties, then select "launch options" input the following...

-gfx_fullscreen:0

Now hit enter and the window should exit. Close everything but steam and your browser.

3. Now try to start the game up, it should load up now but you will not be able to adjust the resolution. Sadly if the game doesnt load up here then the rest of this may or may not help you as this worked for me 100% of the time.

4. Close everything except steam and your browser.
Navigate to the game in your library, select the game, ie northland or 8th wonders and right click.
Select properties now select from the top tabs "local files" (you can also do this from...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cultures Northland
but i find it much easier to just do it through steam.)
Next select "browse local files". Now you should be in the game folder on your hard drive mentioned above.
Locate the "Saves" folder. Open the folder. Right click somewhere and havigate to "New" and hover then select "text document" name if the following....

opt_glob

Now close everything except steam and your browser and launch the game again.

5. Now you need to get into a game i doubt it matter which but I always used the first tutorial. Once you are in the game go to setting (its the left side toolbar looks like wrenches)
From the top tab select "video" and change the resolution to anything. It will not work. A windows dialogue box will pop up says yada yada resolution is not supported, this is fine. Select ok go back into settings save the game and then close the game.

6. Now navigate back to the "Saves" folder you should now see 3 new items:

singleplayer
opt_callsign
opt_glob

Next, carefully delete the opt_glob text docutment you created (the new one will be a "configuration setting" file type the one you created will be "text document" file type)
Now select the "opt_glob" file (the new one) and open it, if anything is there delete it then copy and paste the following........

gfx_screen_width 1920
gfx_screen_height 1080
gfx_screen_depth 16

Now save this file and then procede back to the main game folder located at
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cultures Northland

7.Here you want to locate the Game.exe or as it appears on my computer "Game"
Now right click and select "properties" and a new window will open
Next, from the top tabs select "Compatibility"
Now you want to checkmark the following boxes

Run this program in compatibility mode for:
Windows Service Pack 3

Override high DPI scaling behavior.
Scaling performed by:
Application

Run this program as an aministrator

Next make sure they are all checkmarked and that none of the other boxes are.
Now click "Apply"

NOW CLOSE EVERYTHING BUT STEAM AND YOUR BROWSER THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP AND EVERY TIME I SKIPPED THIS STEP THE GAME WOULD NOT LAUNCH.

8. Again, make sure you closed everything but steam and your browser. Launch the game. There you go! everything should work now and you can change resoultion from the videos tab in the settings menu.
Mind you somethings will be a bit akward due to the DPI scaling. Things ive noticed are...

Mouse wheel zoom doesnt center back

Text in tooltips is MUCH smaller maybe too small in fact lol

Seems like a bit of the bottom of the map is cut off, maybe 5%..but this hasnt caused me any issues.

It seems alot to make it work with nice resolution but i need the screen real estate and its not that bad really! Welp i hope this helps someone, cheers!
