Can anyone describe how multiplayer works
Interested in this but I have friends on the internet I'd like to play with. Other than streaming my game screen if they are playing will they receive a realtime representation of the game via their phone/browser? Such as they get the question, voting screens with answers etc or is it simplified to just them giving answers (input) etc?

Sorry if the question is a bit garbled but I'd rather not buy then refund if this won't meet my needs anyway.

Yes, you do recieve the question you're supposed to answer, as well as the question and possible answers you're supposed to vote on. Even with stream lag, the game is completely functional and fun.

Thanks. Was specifically looking if it could be played without streaming but Eagle seems to suggest as much in the first part of their answer so I'll give the game a punt.

It is designed for local party play but is very fun over a stream as well. Instead of punting, why not run a curl route and accept a pass from the fine folks at Jackbox Games?

Heres a detailed instruction:
  • You play either locally, or stream your game per twitch, skype or something alike if youre online
  • The host who owns the game starts a new match
  • Everyone (also the host) goes to jackbox.tv either per browser or per smartphone, and enters the roomcode that is displayed on the hosts screen (or stream) and also a nickname
  • You are now filling this room up to 8 players. If the host is streaming, everyone else can still join this room as audience, which enables them to vote the answers, but not write answers themselfs
  • When the match starts, everyone gets 2 questions on their choice of device (browser, smartphone). Thats why also the host has to have another device open with jackbox.tv, cause you should not show what you type (do remember though, it does not have to be a phone, you can use a browser on a second monitor for example).
Thats it!

Thanks. I bought the game, was a laugh and I'll keep it rather than getting a refund as I expect to play it again.

I have to say it's a shame that participants have to watch via stream, even with extra time the delay isn't the best (they see answers and results later than the host) and I'd expect the website to be able to just download the 100mb of assets to participants and provide a near instant mirror. I get this is a local game but I think they're missing out on an opportunity here for more distant playing if they simplfied that.

Still good job all and thanks for the detailed answer Bahzur.

100 mb is no small feat for a website, even with the bandwith of most of today's internetconnections. Having to down/upload for EVERY player / audience participant is way too much, considering the audience is capped at 10000...

Audience under no disagreement should be via streaming. Players though, I think should have a more elegant means to play that doesn't have lag. If not for this, then for the other Jack products that simply don't work with streaming. I hope it's something the developer is working towards anyway. Not the end of the world, I don't expect it in this product but merely meant as a customer suggestion. :D

do you need all 8 player?
SockDog Sep 12, 2015 @ 6:22pm
Minimum is 3 but it works better with more so you're not voting between the same two people every time.

I don't know where to put the code
