Use old savegame

I formatted my computer and made a backup of my savegame manually (copied the Square Enix folder on My Documents).

But now I'm trying to use this save again and it is not recognized on save selection menu. Is possible to use this older save again?

Yeah just restart the game and let the cutscene roll till you get to the first fight.
After the fight you`ll see the bats fly, this is where the games created a save.
Your old save file should be in C:\USERS\YOURNAME\MYDOCUMENTS\SQUARE ENIX\BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM GOTY\SAVE DATA\ inside a long named folder like
E000022E00000001 or something similar. Simply copy file Save0.sdg to the latest Folder created just now, check the date the folder was created. This worked for me without doing any GFWL file swaps or messing with anything else. Steam achievements are not logged but at least you carry on where you left off, which for me was poison ivy battle, couldnt face a playthrough to there again just yet! Hope this helps.

Thanks RunsilenT, I have a related problem, where I have installed BAA GOTYE on a new PC, and want to continue my game progress - which luckily still exists on my old PC. Had hoped that Steam would provide Cloud Save, or GFWL would do as promised and deliver saves data as part of profile... but when googling this, I see many unlucky folks who have lost their saves :-(
I will follow your guide and play on.

I tried to do as suggested by RunsilenT said, but after changing the .sdg file, the game says that my savegame is corrupted and has to be deleted.

What do you mean when you talk about "checking the date folder was created"?

For example Folder E000022E00000001 that contains .sdg file from newly created game will be dated today for example when you hover the mouse over the folder it shows Date Created. Im assuming you have your old save game file .sdg by itself cut from the old folder. Simply replace the new .sdg file with your old one into the newly created (newest dated folder) Do not drag and drop the full folder from your old save game, just the save0.sdg file. This has worked for me,

Yes, that's what I did, only replacing the .sdg file. Probably it's my save that's corrupt :(

I just bought AA on steam, i got to the first fight, finished it, bats flew around and one thing I didn't even think about doing is when i grabbed a riddler trophy.I clicked exit to desktop and now there is no folder in my Save Data folder. Please help.

Now, saves are stored in your steam folder:

• Steam\userdata\<userid>\35140\remote, for GOTY edition
  
• Steam\userdata\<userid>\35010\remote, for standard edition

e.g.: C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\userdata\<userid>\35140\remote
