Batman AA:Game of the Year edition requires Windows Live?!

When I purchased Batman Arkham Asylum no where in the purchase description did it say that I have to create a windows live profile or sign in in order to save the game. Now, when I started this game, I am getting the message that I MUST have a windows live account, and I MUST be online in order to play and save my game. WTF is up with this?

I want to be absolutely clear here, the store website only says that windows live is required for when I choose to online, it does not state I have to have a windows live account just to play single player offline and be able to save my game:

Zerodarkage - nowhere on the product pages for either game does it actually state that. I'm so pissed off right now I can't see straight.

Oh and apparently you have to be online in order to save your game, you cannot be offline and play it. I was offline because my internet cut out on me and I lost all of my progress. Nowhere in the product description did it say Online is Required to save your singleplayer game.

Nope. I completed asylum a week back, and I was offline most of the times. No problems whatsoever.

I'm not trying to be combative, but I need to figure out why mine didn't save or restore where I had left off?

Not including the 10 minutes where I was trying to figure out the Windows-- Live bullcrap, I spent over a half hour in the game, and not one bit of it was saved - I made a great deal of progress (skipping intros and what not). I also double checked and the menu had no save feature, I was offline despite having logged into windows live.

Get this, in trying to contact Microsoft and Games for Windows Live support I discovered the following:
1. The publisher information valve has for the game is incorrect
2. Warner Brothers does not offer any support for Windows Live
3. Windows Live no longer exists on Microsoft's web pages and the phone number for Windows Live is now part of XBOX Live (877 274 4349).
4. XBOX Live does not offer any form of technical support for Windows Live.
5. Microsoft actually has a Return Policy for this game, and told me to ask Steam for a return because my problems would qualify as a return for their store.

Yeah, actually, this is what I supposedly had done. Something is messed up with Games for Windows Live because it didn't save. When I called Microsoft they even said I'd have been eligible for a return because I'm experiencing a "known issue".

Which brings me back to how pissed off I am with Steam not treating this issue with the seriousness they should given I'm not the only person who has problems.

I bought this game only because it's good, but windows live really suck. I didn't buy so many games because of that. The only windows live game I've played was some GTA game and that was horrible. Why would I want to be logged in at windows live? I'm already online at steam..

Also, I won't be buying new batman game because of DRM. Windows Live, Steam, SECUrom..

Of course OFFLINE profile will save progress. EVERY single game that supports GFWL allows OFFLINE profiles to save and load game. However with OFFLINE profile you don't have access to leaderboards and multiplayer. Check that yourself, come back and apologize.

Offline Mode is giving me ♥♥♥♥ when I try to create a profile, it is NOT allowing me to save, and MICROSOFT no longer supports Games for Windows Live technical support. ALL of the contact information on this website and microsoft's leads you to XBOX live because MICROSOFT has completely wiped out and fired everyone working for Windows Live Tech Service.
