Win7 x64, Arkham Asylum GOTY will not run
This is weird. Batman: Arkham Asylum won't run. I get the initial "play, settings" load screen. When I click play, nothing happens.

The last time I played the game(last year), I had zero issues running it with Steam. But now, I can't even find the EXE file to try and run it directly.

Does anyone have a solution to make this run? Because I have no idea of where to even begin.

When I run the file itself, I get this error message:

d3dx9_43.dll is missing.

I've just had this exact problem and solved it by installing direct x again.
Got it via this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=35
Installed it and now it runs after I press 'play'

I've read other forums about installing IE9/windows essentials/gams for windows live ...
Installed 1 out of 3 which was the latest games for windows live, BUT so not sure if that helped as I've read this batman series has moved away from gfwl - still didn't open though until after I installed directX ( which may of fixed that missing .dll file) so I put my bet on the directX.

Help this helps.

The issue was a missing DX file, it's workign now.

This demo does not work. I have tried verify, dx, and it still doesn't work. It says init32 so guessing it's a 64 bit problem. It would be really nice if Steam (given that they know our specs) made an effort to notify that something doesn't work before we download it.

Make sure your video driver and dir X are up to date and it runs beautifully.

I also had this problem and the fix provided by slothCAT solved the issue: (re)install directx from http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=35
