How to uncap Batman Arkham Asylum Framerate cap
I bought this Batman game on PC in hopes of using my Ultra PC to play the game with a buttery smooth framerate, but it appears the game is hard capped at 62 FPS. Ugh. I found a .ini file in both "My Documents" and the main game's directory with an option for "frame smoothing" with a TRUE next to it. Even if I change this to FALSE, every time I Launch the game from Steam, it changes that setting back to TRUE even after I saved the changes. Had anyone figured out how to uncap the framerate and keep it uncapped? I swear these days I spend more time trying to get my games to run smoothly than actually playing them.

Scroll down to 'High Frame Rate' and follow the instructions.

For future reference, the PC Gaming Wiki has all sorts of fixes like this.

I have set the bmEngine.ini default to False ( I tried FALSE and False) in both locations the file exists. (in My Documents and the game's root folder) I also set both .ini files to read only after changing them. I also increased both the mimimum and maximum smoothed framrate setting to 999 on both .inis and the framerate is still stuck at 62 FPS. I am concerned that the 1.1 patch broke the ability for this tweak to work. Has anyone uncapped the framerate on this game since the 1.1 patch?

I don't think it has anything to do with the patch, since I can get it to work. That's really weird that it doesn't work for you.

This may seem like a dumb question, but do you have VSync enabled? That would probably be the problem.

Damnit, it must be something strange with my setup, and no I don't have v-sync enabled. Thanks for the ideas however and thanks a ton for confirming that others are in fact able to uncap it. I'm going to build a new machine in a few weeks and it will interesting to see if this other PC is able to uncap the FPS. I'm embarassed to say i've spent over 2.5 hours on this but i've finally given up and im just playing threw the game with tearing.

I'm able to uncap Goat Simulator and Archam City just fine BTW.

I altso tried the solution from pcgamingwiki, it did not work for me either, still capped to 62 fps.
But with v-sync on its @ 60fps constant, and no tearing, so you should just turn v-sync on.

I noticed something. When i made the changes in "BmEngine.ini" it somehow changes back to original even if i save the changes. Did this happen to you altso?

Yes you have to mark the file as read-only for it to not change back. However it still won't unlock the framerate in my experience.

AA has no multiplayer component and isn't VAC secure, why would you get banned? There's nothing wrong with manually tweaking the ini files .

Sorry to necro this five-year-old thread, but this problem has a solution that actually works, found here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/35140/discussions/0/594820656453656638/

That is literally the exact same solution linked in the first response to this thread. Nice useless necro.
