Low FPS during Scarecrow levels
I usually run the game at 62 FPS with my 970 and i5 but during scarecrow levels it drops to ~25 fps. I have Physx on high, is that the problem? Shouldn't the 970 still be able to handle the physx effects?

It is a problem, yes. I believe you need to use 2 cards for a good performance on high physx. One card for regular visuals and the other for physx. This scarecrow bs takes a lot of resources.

Yeah, I just turned physx to normal and then it went back to the usual 62 fps. I've read that this is because of older physx code which isn't supported anymore by newer cards, so much of the physx process is handled by the cpu.

It is a 2009 game, it should be easily handled by Modern Cards - For Mirrors Edge, It Helped deleting the Physx DLL from the game folder, to use the up to date ones. go try that.

This thread is from 2015?

This is due to a very high level of physX objects being used at these levels. Only way to way to play through it is to have an insanely powerful graphics card. Otherwise you can either play through at a low FPS for the rest of that level or turn your setting down.

I know, old thread.

Even with a powerful card(1070) and physx on high it is not enough to brute force this level. It will usually use ~25% to maintain 73fps on 1080p max settings with 8xq AA at 1450mhz(stock clock).
On this level when the blocks start flying it would dip below 30 and even single digits at times.

The graphics usage actually went down and the card downclocked to 1000mhz or less.

RTX 2080 ti here and the game ran really low FPS during Scarecrow the second encounter.
and this is why i not only disable PhysX but also run at uncapped framerates to experience almost no lag spikes at FHD max settings (also MSAA off)

I'm from the future. Running with a 3090 here getting 30fps. Also the scarecrow sequences look nice but the platforming/ hiding is annoying af
