.net 3.5 framework error on Windows 10 please help
Hey guys I've been researching this problem for the last couple of days and am coming to a dead end. When trying to install Arkham asylum goty (or city) on Windows 10 a pop up comes up asking me to install .net 3.5 framework. It then tries and fails to download because it could not find the file. Error code 0x80070002.
Specs: Windows 10, clean from 8.1
Ssd
Gtx 970
I54690k

The game did work on Windows 8.1. Both these games were a pain due to physx and other install issues. But this . Net problem beats them all. Any and all help would be great. I've tried comparability modes, running as administrator, running the game from the bmstartup file (whatever it's called). Trying to find and uninsstall .net framework 3.5 ( no luck) and turning of Windows updates while trying to install the game. And I've try to enable . Net framework 3.5 from Window programs and features but it won't let me because it tries to download it and the file can't be found. Help me obi wan... Ugh. Thanks guys.

Normally there's a Setup folder containing the DrectX, DotNetFX, and vcredist installers. I looked in my own Asylum files and only found a redist folder. However, if you have Arkham City you might be in luck. On Windows 8.1 there's a DotNetFX35 installer in the following directory:

Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Batman Arkham City GOTY \ Setup \ dotnetfx35

Let us know your results.

Hey thanks for the idea. I tried and got the same error when I tried to download it. "The following feature couldn't be installed: .net framework 3.5 (includes 2.0 and 3.0) the system cannot find the file specified. Error code 0x80070002.

When I tried the "tell me how to solve this problem " link it sends me to a page telling me how to mix it on a Windows server or Windows 2008 (I think) OS. Haven't tried it yet because I have Windows 10 and didn't know if I should mess with it

Weird part is that this error has come up with several of the games I've tried to install. But after I close the error box, 7-10 of the games have go ahead an install normally. The two batman games and Star Wars the force unleashed won't install though because of that error, I'm guessing .

i fixed it 3 hours ago... just go to the "Uninstall or change a program" and uninstall physx then just launch the game and it will install the proper version of physx to lauch it :)

Sorry, what were you exact steps? I uninstalled physx and tried to launch it from steam but still there was an error. Congrats though

Go to
Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features
and select
Turn Windows features on or off
and from this screen click and enable
.NET Framework 3.5
Windows will start downloading the files, you will need an internet connection.

Didn't work for me still. Won't download or find the file. I tried to enable it and it can't find the file. Set Microsoft edge as my default browser to see if it works. Any ideas would be great, thanks

What I've tried with Windows 10:
- enabling .net 3.5 from programs and features Windows update section.
- run as admin
- installing .net from internal files and externally downloading from Microsoft site.
- uninstalling physx
- running compatibility with every Windows before hand.

Try these, some people say it worked for them and Windows 10. Good luck

Ran into the same problem with Asylum this weekend, are you going to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY\Binaries,
opening the properties of "BmLauncher", "BmStartApp", and "ShippingPC-BmGame"
and setting all three to run as admin and in compatibility mode?

ever since switching to 10 if a newly downloaded, or game that worked fine before for that matter, fails to run/install, doing that has worked every time.

Yeah I tried that one too. Thanks for the tip. I unfortunately had to reinstall windows 8.1. It semms that my version of windows 10 home, because everyone had to get different copies for some reason, had no easy fix for this .net 3.5. Some users could do compatability mode of some kind. some could run it from a different file, some could run it as admin. Some could download the .net 3.5 from microsoft and the repari tool and run it that way. Others could enable through the windows update section in programs and features. And then there was the attempt to take the file from my windows 10 install isb by force and install it that way. No go. Glad you got it working. Im back on the games in windows 8.1. First world problems.lol.

Dude I've just solved this problem in a way I think you have not tried, go home and type services, once opened go to windows update and check if it's enabled if not right click it and select properties then in the general tab change it to automatic , then go to the recovery tab and in first error select restart service then go to the general tab again and start the service, click apply and accept then try to install the .net 3.5 again.

I hope it works for you, also I'm a spanish speaker so i translate the tabs and options name but i guess they should have that name or at least something similar. I hope you understand everything and you can finally solve this problem :steamhappy:
