Is there any way to fix the combat? It feels so unresponsive and inaccessible
I have to start this by saying I have autism, I can easily get overwhelmed, and I don't really have a good concept of timing or execution either. Tried to learn chess for example but I can't think more than two moves ahead. I really do not like the combat of this, I've honestly considered putting this game down because of how clunky it feels. I got stuck on Bane's fight because there was no indication of what to do to deal with him, until I looked it up (Immediately a sign of bad game design)

The main problems come down to timing and hints, I've noticed a massive lack of accessibility here, an embarrassing amount compared to other games that came out at this time. As I said in the title, it's unresponsive. I press to counter after performing an attack, but it doesn't castle the attack to counter.
Then there's health which doesn't regenerate. It wouldn't be so bad if I had this, I could tolerate the mistakes. But there's a 'no mistake' game design philosophy at play here, which is unpleasant and hinders the overall gaming experience. I'm playing on Normal but I can't even lower the difficulty for some reason? Confusing design choice. Accessibility issue obviously.

The game gives you tips on how to defeat Bane, for example in the loading screens after you die to help you. Boss fights are supposed to be difficult, so yes, be prepared to die quite a bit and think of a strategy to defeat bosses, that's part of the challenge. If you can't think of the solution instantly, personally I disagree that it's a sign of bad game design. Quite the opposite. If everything is immediately and instantly clear, there's not much game left, no?

Your health also regenerates to 100% after death, even if you had less before that. Counter is an issue, true, but not all enemies can actually be countered (the game also tells you that in a loading screen, there are some types you have to dodge to get behind them, then hit them). Sorry to hear you're having issues, I played it on normal and was raging every now and then myself, but after a while it's mainly practice. Dodge to the side, use cape stun and then just hit attack for most enemies and you should be good.

If you fail multiple times, there should be an optional hint for those who can't figure it out. I spent over 5 minutes just dodging the attacks wondering why he wasn't being stunned. Thought it was a bug at first. Turns out you need to throw the Batarang during the charge to blind him, which wasn't obvious to me. I figured out I can throw in two punches and roll out after the stun.

I have autism, the real kind, (got my pilots license before I got my drivers license as a teen.) There's nothing wrong with the combat, there is a slight delay in timing in which you should attack or defend in this compared to the later games, which are much faster.

But it sounds like you're simply too slow for video games like this.

Autism is a spectrum.

Yes, one that a large portion of pilots, engineers, physicists, ect. overlap into.

Being bad at video games because you have might have some sort of hand and eye coordination problem, isn't part of that spectrum

Then what is my issue? Why do I have timing issues and can't always think quickly in a situation when I'm overwhelmed with information? I've been told my whole life that the information overload was a part of autism.

Sorry about your difficulties and some of the insensitive responses here. I don't have a solution for you, but I agree that games should have more accessibility options so that everyone can enjoy video games. Thanks for making me realize that.

There are cheat engine tables / trainers around on the net that give options for unlimited health / one hit kills / slower game speed etc. It won't mitigate the combat completely but might make it easier to manage at your own pace.
Honestly dude I wouldn't blame the autism... I'm trying to play it on hard and sometimes I feel like batman is seeing double and punching ghosts. I've found counter attacks to be weird. Almost like if you see them winding up, its too late. I press the counter button after every 2 or 3 punches and its almost like it summons a punch to counter just because I pressed the button.

Accusing the game of bad game design and saying it needs fixing is dishonest because what you actually want is just more accessibility options...

And if there were accessibility options, I wouldn't be complaining.

If you cannot focus, you should be reading instead of playing video games.

ZX Autism. A great machine. Loved playing Manic Miner on that.

that can indeed be part of autism. i have something similar sometimes and know others who also have variations of this. there is a reason why its called Autism Spectrum Disorder. Just because one person has a certain issue and another does not, does not mean its not part of Autism. I also found it pretty irritating that he used the term true autism tbh. as if there is a fake version around. ( and no i am not talking about people faking a disability. those are best ignored imo. )
Stop giving me notifications for this ♥♥♥♥.
