Hope you find a solution.
I'm guessing that the glitch happens when the elevator area is unloaded from memory and the entrance area is loaded in, at that point it fails to load the elevator again and just gets stuck on the "Door Opening..." message.
I'll skip the area and come back later when the door to the entrance gets unlocked, possible that will fix it.
1. Select game in Library, right-click Properties > Updates, choose Automatic Updating.
2. Select game in Library, right-click Properties > Local Files, Verify Integrity of Game Cache.
This is an old topic, but for new players encountering those locked security doors try lowering your in-game screen screen resolution from maximum for improved object and proximity registration. Overly high in-game res can cause bad checkpoints by not properly recording interactions or traversal. Test with 1280x720.
To prevent the freefall into darkness, disable DX10:
1. Locate DefaultEngine.ini: Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY \ BmGame \ Config \ DefaultEngine.ini
2. Open DefaultEngine.ini with NotePad
3. Locate "AllowD3D10=True" and change True to False
4. Save file and restart computer
Not certain if PhysX could play a part with the locked doors, but try testing this area with PhysX disabled from inside the Launcher > Settings.
@Ophion, how much RAM and VRAM do you have? It might not be loading or saving completely.
EDIT: In my case, if I restart via checkpoint and don't move too far from the door, the door opens fine
It starts bugging if I move to the other end
But this does mean I can't go back to pick up a riddler challenge at the other end of the hallway
Also PC specs if that means anything

Not the greatest but enough to run circles around this old game
