Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition

Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition

Bugged rooms and falling to my death.
After getting out onto the surface of Arkham Island and attempting to track down Gordon, whenever I enter a door leading into a building all that loads is a single empty room with a grey floor and then nothingness. The door acts as a checkpoint and if I take more than a step or two forward, I fall immediately and die. This acts as a checkpoint, so reloading results in falling to my death in an endless loop. Physx is disabled by default for me, if that helps at all.

First, both verify and patch the game:
1. Select game in Library, right-click Properties > Local Files, Verify Integrity of Game Files.
2. Select game in Library, right-click Properties > Updates, Automatic Updating.

Next, disable DirectX:
1. Locate DefaultEngine.ini: Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY \ BmGame \ Config \ DefaultEngine.ini
2. Open DefaultEngine.ini with NotePad
3. Locate "AllowD3D10=True" and change True to False
4. Save file and restart computer

Also here:
1. Locate BmEngine.ini: Documents \ Square Enix \ Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY \ BmGame \ Config \ BmEngine.ini
2. Open BmEngine.ini with NotePad
3. Locate "AllowD3D10=True" and change True to False
4. Save file and restart computer

Let us know your your results. If those don't work, list your specs, OS, and specify whether AMD or NVidia video card. That might tell us what's missing.

Files all validated, game fully updated. Checked those INI files days ago (found out about them when I learned about the PhysX fix) and they're already at "False" by default. So none of the "easy fixes" were of any use. But I'm used to that - whenever I have a problem with a program, the solutions others have found in the past have never worked for me.

Basic specs for my system (I can go more in-depth, but this is the important stuff):
Windows 10 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i7 2600 (Sandy Bridge) quad-core 3.40 Ghz CPU
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU
16GB RAM

Is this happening at a building entrance from outside, or while passing from one room to the next? If you're falling through the floor after entering a building, you might be stuck in the "entrance foyer" behavior but the game hasn't properly registered that you're now actually inside the building. Arkham Knight continuously streams your egress through exterior doors without stopping the action, but Arkham Asylum through Origins stops the action and cuts as you pass through, leaving only a vestigial "foyer" visible from a downward angle.

In Origins (Gotham Merchants Bank) you can drop enemies crossing that foyer as they enter the room from "outside" by ramming them with a boosted Remote Batarang until they drop through the map. I suspect this is whats happening to you because something isn't loading completely. Can you backtrack out the door, and try saving and quitting the game from inside another building? Hopefully that might reset the room behavior in the building you're trying to enter. Let us know your results; I'd hate to see you have to start a brand new game if there's something could be triggered with a temporary location swap.

If you're on Windows 10, did you install the redistributables that W10 lacks? You can run the game with PhysX disabled, but you still might need some PhysX installed:
Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY \ redist \ DirectX \ DXSETUP
Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY \ redist \ PhysX_9.08.14_9.09.0814_SystemSoftware
Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY \ redist \ vcredist_x86

I'm going to have to start an entirely new game anyway - I literally cannot do anything on this file. I start falling and drop as soon as the game loads and my controls literally do nothing. And that's even after making sure everything you listed above is installed. I installed .NET Framework 4.5 yesterday (it was needed for another program) and I ran the DirectX installer in the Arkham Asylum folder even though I was fairly certain I already had it installed. I'm just trying to figure out what was doing it so I can avoid it in the future.

Next playthrough, start making periodic backups of your .sgd save files, and keep them in separate sequential folders just in case. I do this with Arkham Origins because I love to replay the predator rooms, but this will help you backtrack safely to a previously solid area. Your save files are located here:
Steam \ userdata \ Steam User Number \ 35140 \ remote \ save0.sgd

Keep us posted. I'm curious to see if it recurs next time.

I'll do that - thanks. In the last two hours I got back to the point where I glitched last time around and it's working fine. The main difference I've seen is that last time, the main door to the medical building where I was supposed to go and trigger a conversation with Harley Quinn was locked, so I went up on the roof and went into the alternate entrance you're supposed to find later. Maybe it was just a random hiccup - I don't know. But now that I know where the saves are I'll start copying them.

Same thing literally just happened to me. Guess I'm starting over.
