Well, no, it's not "all platonic".

There are reasons why Shorekeeper is referred to as the official wife.

Carlotta more or less asked Rover to marry her, and Cantarella, well, do her story.

There's obviously more than just those three.

The majority of the characters are female. And ALL OF THEM have something for Rover (main character). You could read the dialog, and it is very clear. Again, it called gathering wives for a reason.
