The problem for me is that the publisher/developer doesn't even have to be up to no good, but if the game gets hacked, all our data is with people who are up to no good!
This is misinformation from the OP. It's incredibly easy to remove all remnants from your system if you wanted to quit. There was a game that had it and devs shared a simple script to remove when they changed anti cheat implementation.

You can also open a terminal window to check the anti cheat process and can see for yourself that it isn't ever running when the game isn't running.
Because you pull for characters and weapons with limited resources which constitutes the game's revenue model (it's a f2p game).
You are able to mod the game.
