As someone who's sunk countless hours into Genshin Impact, jumping into Wuthering Waves felt instantly familiar—but not in a bad way. The core structure echoes Genshin's open-world exploration and team-based combat, which makes it easy to pick up. But what surprised me was just how much deeper the systems run here.

Combat is where WuWa really sets itself apart. It’s fluid, fast, and far more dynamic, thanks to the addition of Intro/Outro skills that encourage team synergy in a more engaging way. Every switch-in feels impactful, and characters flow together naturally during battle. The parry/dodge system rewards skill expression, giving the whole experience a more action-heavy edge that Genshin lacks.

The Echo system—WuWa’s version of artifacts—feels like a breath of fresh air. Not only do they provide stat boosts, but some grant unique abilities, making builds more flexible and exciting early on. It adds a layer of strategy without the overwhelming RNG grind Genshin veterans are all too familiar with.

Even the starter team surprised me. Unlike Genshin’s initial roster, which often feels underpowered until you invest heavily, WuWa’s starting characters are well-rounded, satisfying to play, and synergize well together. It’s a much smoother onboarding experience.

In short, Wuthering Waves captures the best parts of Genshin while introducing bold new mechanics that make it feel fresh, rewarding, and a bit more hardcore. If you loved Genshin’s world but wished the combat had more bite and depth, WuWa might be exactly what you’re looking for.
