If you don't "get" the steam deck then don't get a steam deck - simple as that ;-)
Despite all those IQ points you claim to have, you seem to not understand the basic concept and appeal of portable gaming devices in general.
I paid 400$ for a controller with a cellphone screen so I can play all my games any time and any where and any way I want.
I can play in the kitchen while having a pot on the stove, and when I'm done in the kitchen, I just take my deck and either connect it up to the 27" monitor on my desk or use the 44" TV in the living room - all without booting up another computer or interrupting the game at all...
And unlike most other portable gaming devices, the deck can do more than just run games, it can do everything a "real computer" does and is a nice energy efficient "desktop replacement" when docked to a monitor + mouse & keyboard.
Of course you could also achieve most of this with a laptop, but if you find a laptop with a built in gamepad for under $400 new in box with equal or better CPU and GPU performance - show me - I was looking around for quite a bit before deciding to buy a steam deck.
