How do you use hints?

I already checked this question, but it didn't really say how to use the hints. I have 31 gold pieces, so I traded one for 10 hints. But how do I use them? I'd like to know where that elusive corner piece is hiding. I click on the empty space and hit "L", but that doesn't do anything. Help, please!

There are 3 hotkeys to use the hints in different ways. You can view the hotkeys in a puzzle by pressing "i". Also you really, really don't wanna trade gold pieces for hints, since you can only get gold pieces while completing a puzzle for the first time and the items in the koisk cost a lot of gold pieces. Plus you need 50 hints to trade for a single gold piece.

There are no hints that locate pieces for you, only hints once you have the piece.

Ghost hint you can use as is by pressing G. Angle hint (A) and location hint (L) work when you are holding a puzzle piece and press the hotkey. The angle hint will rotate the piece you are holding to the right angle, localtion hint will highlight the part of puzzle where the piece you are holding should go.
