Am I supposed to recognize any of the characters?

I'm liking the game, but this kind of graphic style isn't used very often. Should I be recognizing any of the characters, or are they just friends of the devs?

I don't recognize any of them. Apparently Benzaie is a french Youtube star, I wouldn't have known that at all. I wonder if there's anything special about the other actors? I'm too American to understand the game.

The game is french, and most of the characters are french people known in the "VS fighting scene" I'd say. There are some of them I don't know though. The most famous ones are Benzaie, who makes humoristic videos on Youtube showing unboxing of games collector editions (He also streams lets lays on Twitch), and Bob Lennon, who is mostly known on youtube for making commented playthroughs on various games. These two are actually very famous in France, even people not really into video games may have heard of them.

You can only barely find out about most of the others on the internet, but other French people who are actually interested in professional VS fighting might tell you more about them than I can.

PS : I forgot to say, the lines the characters say when fighting/taunting are often known catchphrases of their own. The best exemple for this statement is Bob Lennon, cause he basically makes the same sounds in this game as in his youtube playthroughs during fighting scenes.

I think that makes things a little better for me, actually. Hearing familiar catchphrases from people I recognize would have made the characters much sillier.

I'd like them to add some more serious characters, actually. Many people like Mitch Cassidy specifically because he at least looks like a fighter instead of a fat nerd waving his hands. Those certainly are funny too, but it would be cool to have some actual martial artists to be selectable as well. At least put a real savateur in there...

I think the game has enough serious characters, though most of them are more on the street-thug side than the trained martial-artist side like Mitch Cassidy. Just because they don't look like Ryu doesn't necessarily mean they aren't serious, right? My favorite character is Jack Knife, and I think he fits the tone of the game perfectly. Though I am partial to more criminal-looking characters such as him and Jay Binkman, so I might just be biased.

There's some french youtubers on the roster: Mr Quaraté, Bob Lennon and Benzaie.
I only know Bob and Benzaie's work.

Benzaie started youtube with english spoken videos, then he switched to french. He's a bit like Ken Bogard, a famous french commentator who learned japanese, to be able to follow and comment shows of fighting games like Street Fighter 2 (and other fighting games).

For Bob, his catch phrase "Bonsoir! Je suis Bob Lennon! Haha! " could be translated into "Good evening! I'm Bob Lennon! Haha! " and he starts every video with this sentence :)
With his pal TheFantasio974, they have more than 1.5 millions of subscribers and are known at first for their minecraft videos. Fanta is more on casual gaming, Bob in long "let's play" (over 400 episodes of 20' for Skyrim ^^)

I would add that Benzaie and Bob are friends (they do certain videos together) and they confirmed possibilities of new french guest ( though we will get Nostalgia Critic first)

he makes 1 million a year, hardly enough to retire and have his Grand kids set up for life... Sure that's alot, but meh, with 1 million a year you're likely to be set up for 10 years if you really strech your money and spend like you're a pauper..
