But it's not the same game than the first one yes. It's more a different complementary game. The disappointed people are mostly those who wanted a sequel exactly like the previous one, or feel disappointed because of the absence of auto-pause and pause button. (It seems that there were people who like more a contemplative game when you can take you time to think, it's not a crime). However, devs already anounced that they will implement back the pause, so they seem really listening.
The game is named "rivals" so it was obvious in my mind that this one would be much more "harsh and competitive". I feared more the multiplayer focus game but in fact the game is still long in single player thanks to or because of its difficulty. And the AI is harsh in this one, so it's a real challenge even in single player.
In another part, there were people too who were disappointed because of the 2h limitation per game in multiplayer. I've no opinion about this because i won't play multiplayer (not my cup of tea). All i can say is that there is an endless mode vs AI in single player.
And there are multiple features that disappeared yep (but new other features that appeared too : different mechanisms). For example the bank loans. But even without, the game is still balanced and nothing say that it won't come back in a future patch.
I feel the reviews are very very harsh with the game and the devs. There were crappy games where the players were much more indulgent. I feel the severity comes mainly from the people who were angry because the first episode didn't get the patches they expected. I can understand them even if i don't part their opinion on this one.
(If you feel uncertain, wait for some patches.)
1. Autopause - developers are addressing this already though!
2. Bank loans are an extremely important part of shipping. Typically they are in the form of secured financing which means you would lose a number of secured vessels on default. In addition, some market turbulence on interest rates and LTVs would be interesting. Shame this has been totally removed.
3. You'd expect depreciation to occur on a fairly longer term. Understand the game need s balance so things might be sped up a bit, but apparently dry docking is far too frequent.
4. The graphics haven't been much upgraded, and a few new ships have been added, but these seem to operate just as the container ships do, and just add some specialisation (like refrigeration in game 1)... Soo what was the point of the new game? Seems like not much was added on this front?
5. Needless multiplayer restrictions
6. Translation issues
7. Perhaps needs a fourth speed setting which is slower for some people. Personally I like the idea of super speed. I don't care to watch my ships cruising back and fourth. Don't see the problem here once auto pause is added.
Like I said, this is a summary from reviews and various threads. Happy to be corrected and convinced to buy!
Nah im good ^^ learn that a little in accounting class.
Guess I'll skip this game till they do something of all the problems and review changes which is unlikely.
Sorry, this was aimed at the devs :p
I'd like to adress point #4 in particular: We have added 40 new ships, namely 20 bulk carriers and 20 tank ships. And they do in fact have a very different play style: Tank ships make the most money, but bring you few region points - region points are needed for subsidiaries.
Bulk ships on the other hand make only a few amount of money, but excel at bringing in region points. And Container ships are in the middle.
That means, that in every mode (be it the campaign with its three different goals per chapter or the multiplayer/competition mode against AI) you have to decide which ships suit your strategy best. If the campaign goals ask for subsidiaries and profit shares, you should use Bulk ships. If a competition mode victory condition asks for donating money, you should go for Tank ships. And if there is even a combination of goals/victory conditions that ask for a mix of both directions, you have to get really creative and decide how many ships you put on what strategy.
On top of that, in every multiplayer/competition mode against AI, there are region bonus effects that launch powerful effects. But you only get them with the majority of subsidiaries in a region. So which one do you want? Will you go for Bulk ships and a special region bonus, or focus on money to reach your goals on another way? And if you place your HQ in that region, the bonus gets even more powerful.
I hope that I gave you a more deep insight than some really short reviews that were written after a very short amount of playtime, some of them who clearly didn't see all the content.
If you want to support the devs making patches and a better game, buy now! Or maybe after auto pause :p
Its a pity because May is the Gamers new Broketober Month XD
Andrea, if you don't grab them out of the gate you've lost them completely. With Steam's 2 hr 2 week playtime limitations for a refund, people aren't going to take a chance if they aren't satisfied immediately. And please, you addressed us last year as if this game would be an improvement over the first game, not a totally different game.
Shame on you guys. I was hoping it was a better TO1 with tankers and bulk carriers, you had a great opportunity to improve on a good game and ya blew it.
I realy enjoy this game and by using my brain and adaptive strategies (see #8 of this thread) was able to finish the first three missions with "GOLD".
Do I want pause in wharfs to study the offered ships? Yes.
Do I think this game is broken? No.
You get a lot more fun for your bucks (€/play time) than watching a bad movie (€/movie time).
@Andrea & Team: Keep up the good work and haltet die Ohren steif!
