Can you save both? (spoilers)

I noticed there are two achievements with descriptions "choose to save Kessler" and "choose to save Annette". I'm a bit confused because in my playthrough I saved Annette from zombies, poked around the room a bit and then zip-lined over to Kessler, by which point he was already dead. If you're fast enough, can you save both of them?

I guess what's throwing me off is that the wording of the achievement makes it sound like an either-or choice similar to the one at the start of the main game, but I don't see how that can be if you always encounter Annette first.

(Glad I saved her though, her storyline was the best part of the plot for me)

Its an 'either or' choice. There are actually two routes to take. One leads to a bathing area (Annette saved) the other leads to a garage/workshop (Kessler saved).

PS disliked her and preferred Kessler's ending.

Can only save one. I try to save both as fast as possible but always too late. Seems it is scripted that whenever you zip-line the other one will instantly die.

You can't save both, you have to choose.

Kessler was too generic for my tastes, so I chose Annette. I'll reluctantly choose to save Kessler on my second playthrough.

Huh. I completely didn't notice that, I thought the area was entirely linear...

it was done in a nice way; if you're paying attention it's kinda clear there's a choice, but if youre just running thru you might easily not notice - since it's quite a (afaik?) unimportant choice anyway, makes sense.
