Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

The awful weapon selection wheel
If there is anything anyone needs to get fired for in both TNO and TOB than its the atrocious wheel weapon selector. I mean who in the world thaught that cycling through 10+ weapons with a mouse scroll is a good idea. And don't get me started with switching the same amount of weapons with keypad numbers - there is no way to remember which key is for what weapon.

Really, I can get over the awful idTech5 but the weapon selector is bottom line useless.

HL2 is pretty much the same thing except with buckets.

Yeah... would be so much better if the hotkeys on the keypad worked... oh... wait.

And yeah, it's so challenging to remember.
1 - knife
2 - pipe
3 - pistol
4 - machinegun
5 - rifle
6 - shotgun
7 - rocket pistol

You only have to use the weapon wheel if you want to use the sawed off shotgun, or the turret.

Try remembering or at least using those when the giant dog on Padeborn bridge suddenly attacks you and you have to cycle through a ton of weapons to defeat it.

BTW, my issue are not with the keyboard controlls but with the weapon selection wheel. There are at least half a dozen solutions that work way better that the one implemented in Wolfenstein reboots. Prime example is a commo rose variant where you simply have to hold a predefined keyboard key and move your mouse to the appropriate weapon.

Personally haven't used the scroll to select a weapon since 2001 but i do agree, its poorly designed.

I did.
Played the game twice, and the Challenge Map for the bridge.
Zero issues selecting the weapon I needed to take out the various enemies, including the Panzerhund.

And, even when using the weapon wheel... there's nothing wrong with it. Quick and effecient.

I also find the whell not so efficient. But is there a way to select weapons in a fps with mouse that is really efficient? No I doubt.

So I suggest you to set each guns on keyboard keys. Q and E is usefull. And than 123.

I dislike the wheel myself and actually forgot it even existed as I NEVER used it in TNO. Only using it now because I HAVE to if I want to switch to the MG 46 or the Sawed-off.

its better then "return to castle wolfenstein" and "wolfenstein" where you don't know wat weapon you scroll to

At least in RtCW and Wolf 09 you could get to ALL weapons from the number keys instead of having a few weapons that REQUIRED scrolling.

I'm with you guys on this one..the selection wheel is both unattractive and not uber functional.

I liked the system in GTA V myself..it's like the rose variant you mentioned but it also slows down time so it allows for comfortable selection of the necessary weapons.

What I hate is having melee and throw knife forces bound to the same key.
This was my biggest problem with TNO as well- the game is crying out for a wheel you can just select with your mouse. It also leads to the two-weapon switch thing being needlessly frustrating, as I find myself spending a lot of time fiddling around and swapping back and forth so I have particular weapons on hand for different situations. The ability to just pick a different weapon on the fly would have saved so much time.

I don't like the wheel either. I never bother to use it anymore. I always just use the hotkeys for the weapons.
