Even though, for feeling the same, I suggest you test play ... the game allows you a series of customizations that end, rather, leaving the air of customization of RPG ... mainly in combat technique ..
You still have story choices, GM options, RPG modules and etc.
Take it easy, I understood what Wayne meant and I agree. When I play a game, I like to see myself inside, so I always choose male and brown characters.
And, my replica was, since the game has aspects so well done (history, world, combat ..) that is still very immersive.
The character customization, for example; you can combine three different aspects of your character (character/race/class), and the work increases exponentially with each aspect. We've managed to simplify the proccess by making a standard, universal body animation for every class, so we'd only need to switch the head for every character/race variation; still, it's a lot of work! To make a single new character and animate it on every race/class combination possible, we have to make 462 sprites in total - all animated one by one, by hand. It's nuts, and we're VERY limited on people, time, and money, so our battles must be picked very carefully.
On the other hand, that's why there are much more options to customize your DM; they're much less animated than the player characters, so we could afford to make much more options for it.
I know this is not a solution to your criticism, but I hope it explains our reasoning behind it!
No it's not Crazy to have an Imaginary black woman friend, or black male friend, or white transgendered friend, or a half-asian half-british friend. My Critism has nothing to do with that. It has to do with specifically the avatar you choose for yourself. I could tell you in my close circle of friends there is a black woman and man along with a white woman.
Believe it or not, that has absolutely nothing to do with what I was speaking about. I'd be surprised if anyone does not have a friend of another skin color or ancestory. That's not very common in modern America, in China/Africa/Iran/Cuba/India/Japan that may be the case, not in the USA.
The dev fortunately did answer my question, and I understand the reasoning. Limited resources means making sacrifice. This didn't seem like a major amount of work from the end user prospective, but I have limited knowledge on game design.
