So I started watching every sub (The subs were quite far ahead), by the time the dubs started getting made (I skipped all the filler episodes, so there was quite a big gap in which Naruto canon was in English), I had lost interest in them as I had already seen the story been told by the dub. (To put it into perspective, when the dub finally started up again for Shippuden, the sub was already 130 episodes in, around the time Sasuke fights 8 Tails/Killer Bee.)
I'm thankful for Naruto, as while it wasn't the first anime I'd seen, it was the first English sub of an anime I'd seen, which made me get into much more anime. Like One Piece. Or Rurouni Kenshin, or Gintama, or Monster, or Death Note, or Hunter X Hunter (Original, OVA's and 2011) which then led me to great manga like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Hajime no Ippo (and many many more anime and manga I can't list, as there's simply too many).
I switched to the manga in around 2014ish, and left the anime behind.
I've seen some cool stuff, like Madara vs Guy, but that's only what I really tune in for, I'm just waiting for the final confrontation between Naruto and Sasuke now.
The Itachi story sounds pretty cool also, I like Itachi so I'll be checking that out.
