It's so smooth... is that really 60 fps?

Nah, that s a trick in the edition of the video. This game was NEVER meant for 60 FPS, if you try to run it at 60 FPS, the game will fall apart xD.

the video is at 60 fps while the actual game is running at only 30 fps

it makes perfect sense, the video running in 60 fps is how smooth the video is, the game runs a different fps which is 30, the fact that the highest fps your eyes can process is 60 fps means that the video is as smooth as you can see it, where as the game it self is running at 30 fps, if the video was running at 30 fps and the game ran at 30 fps the game within the video wouldnt seem to run as smooth but since the video is 60 fps the game looks as smooth as it is, I dont really know how to explain it or simplify it any further but the game is capped at 30 so it can't possibly be running at 60 fps otherwise everything would be moving much faster since the physics within the game are bound the the 30 fps cap (kinda like in fallout 4 where the physics are capped at 60 fps and anything higher than that causes things like lock picking to be super hard because the pin moves so fast), the 60 fps is only how smooth the video is/looks

Here's another gameplay video that recorded at 60 fps

Don't tell me that u can't see the difference. Beside i just recorded my own gameplay at 60 fps, but its still feel like it was a 30 fps video.

" the fact that the highest fps your eyes can process is 60 fps"

what the...??? Are you sure? Have you ever tried a 120 hz monitor?

It's called frame interpolation, or motion interpolation. Just google it. The game runs at 30fps, he records it at 30fps, and then he edits the video to create a 60fps video.

I've heard this many times from many people, that your eyes can process anything higher than 60 fps, and anything higher than fps is just performance, maybe I'm wrong but I though it was true that you can't notice a different between anything higher than 60, I believe this because I don't notice any difference between 60 fps and 120 fps they both feel the same

You don't notice because you're using a 60hz monitor, so it only displays 60 frames. I made the jump to a 144hz monitor recently and the difference is staggering. 60fps now looks only ok, not as super smooth as I remember, because I'm now used to a higher standard. 144fps on a 144hz looks sublime.

Alright, so your eyes can process it, it's the monitor that can't process it higher than what it is designed to process, I see thank you

Yup, it's all about the display. There have been tests on people training to be air pilots and they could read and react beyond 200fps as well.

Frame interpolation is used to make the video appear smooth. It adds frames between existing frames to give the illusion of a higher source frame rate. It makes me feel sick, though, so something about it differs pretty greatly from an actual 60fps scene.

It's the method of interpolation that matters. The most common type is called frame ghosting, frame blending or frame fading where the "between" frames are filled with the "previous" and "next" frames overlapping and at 50% opacity. That's the most common and least CPU-intensive way of rendering "between" frames.

The second method is called "optical flow" where an algorithm is used to distinguish foreground and background elements and try to create "between" frames in a more complex way. This method is what people are using for UN Storm videos. Problem is that the algorithm will commonly mistake a foreground and background element with certain things like the GUI of a game, which causes it to have weird results. It's this error that is most likely making you feel sick compared to real 60fps or properly-interpolated 60fps.

how to easily tell if a game is 60FPS or 30FPS if you're not used to distinguishing:
record 60FPS footage of the game, then play the footage back frame by frame. if the gameplay advances every frame, it is 60FPS (though it may skip once in a while if your recording wasn't optimal). if it advances every other frame, it is 30FPS.
congratulations! now you have proof and don't need to ask a userbase that probably knows just as little as you.
