Learn the proper spacing and improve your speed (dashing, blocking, getting the quick hits) and
of course, you'll ABSOLUTELY need to learn how to manage your substitution gauge, doing that requires mindgames, the higher level play, the harder it will be to do this so examine how people work online, observe them, and if you record, you could observe yourself to figure out what's going wrong, I don't do this, but it doesn't stop you from doing so.
Jumping plays a big part of this game as well, as it maintains your normal movement speed and allows you to block (although your block gauge is weaker in air), allowing for dash counters (which can be countered by a normal ground block -> dash but that's still a factor of the mindgames).
After you get the basics and got a good understanding of the mechanics, learn character specific combos for infinites or jutsu / ougis (ultimate jutsus).
Overall, positioning and speed are the key factors in this game, the characters you choose doesn't matter that much as they mostly all have the same speeds, just some have faster start up attacks, or really quick jutsus, or they might be able to easily loop their combos.
or y'know, you can just pander to CC2s casual fanbase and spam jutsus and other exploits for easy wins or whatever like 99% of the players in this game lol just don't be surprised when the 1% comes along and curvestomps ya.
clap clap calp calp calp ! Perfect !
Otherwise, it's just fairly fighting with attacks and jutsus (among the few ultimate and awakenings) and trying to learn your enemy's pattern and counter it with skill. The game is not so difficult but later, it becomes tedious to master (Still fun, though). PVP is just savage.
