Stellar Blade™

Stellar Blade™

Why doesn't the game have a souls-like tag? Why is the developer deceiving us?
Literally all the core mechanics are taken from ds and sekiro. And as far as I can tell from the demo, the combat system is mostly broken. Parries and dodges are not calibrated for the keyboard at all. If you for example, 10 times parried an attack, then successful parries will count only half of them. The same with dodges. I'm very frustrated. Eve, as it turns out, is very clunky. You can see that the console conventions have had a negative effect on her movement.

And again, back to the title, why the developer is deceiving us. Is it considered that if you add combos and a choice of difficulty levels to the game, it suddenly became a slasher? No, because the core gameplay is taken from souls-like games. They didn't even shy away from copying enemies that hide around corners and throw a punch that you can't backstab or parry. Or boss captures that kill you instantly. You have no idea how much I want a refund on my pre-order money right now. Unfortunately they didn't follow in the footsteps of God of War 3, DmC (2013) or Nier Automata. It's sad.

i think it is the game logic, that when you miss a parry or a dodge, the effect of the followed hits has an impact on your next move, like when you get hit you kinda lose balance and so you are not able to get a successful followed parry/dodge.

These bastardized souls-like game mechanics can be justified any way you want. Okay, let's say in DS you can justify it, there we play as a human, but here it's a fighting android. I won't believe that if he missed one punch he wouldn't be able to block or dodge the next one. And the main thing is that you play according to the rules of the developer, press the buttons in time, but every time it works crookedly.
it isn't souls like...
Skill issue

It’s not a souls like. It’s a hack and slash adventure game.

Just because a game has dodge and parry doesn’t mean it’s a souls like

Because it isn't. If every game with a dodge and parry mechanic was a Souls-like then Expedition 33 would be listed as one and that wouldn't make any sense.

I finished the demo story mode and boss fight. I do agreed with thread starter.. The combat mechanic is swayed toward soul-like. (unlike GOW 2108).
However i also somehow agreed keyboard /mouse for Stellar blade is abit tricky to remap. So lucky key mapping work for demo.
Due to intense combat than platforming, i swap my jump to L.Alt and dodge to spacebar. It enable me to perform more perfect dodge. ( you can practise P.dodge in training at supply camp. I surprised developer got training mode). I need sometime to get use L.alt as jump.
While i mapped RMB to parry/guard. I able to parry quite alot at boss challenge.
I usiing logitech mouse g502 thus i got plently of button to map for beta skill.

Although i don't like soul game but stellar blade eve is too attractive for me to give up this game. My learning curve is high for this game. Nevertheless i managed to beat the boss challenge. definitely struggling. Yes. i got skill issue when come to soul-like.
Will go for second round of story mode. Will try japanese dub. Japanese VA always do a better job.
Felt english VA is not interested when they doing this project.

The same problem of "no rest for the wicked". Theses producers try to say any game is souls like. I do remove the tag because I use the dynamic collections on my lib.
Skill issue, git gud and sybau

I mean people compare it with Nier, I think this game has far more in common with Souls games than Nier especially in terms of difficulty and general combat flow.

Literally? You know when you use the word literally it means that you can cite the source. Where in this universe does it say that "the core mechanics are taken from ds and sekiro?"

Come on. We both know you made this ♥♥♥♥ up.
God of War 1 from 2005 already had parry and dodge mechanics that does not make it a souls like.

But yeah MANY fighting games take combat mechanics from souls and less commonly from Sekiro.

I did not play the game but the Demo is limited.

So in the full game Eve might get upgrades to her mobility.

Perhaps people who played the console version know.

sounds like a skill isue, i've beated the demo without dying even once on normal and i'm not even that good on soulslike games, everyone literally point out that this game is perfect mix of hack and slash and souls like genres. game also has a soulslike tag on its steam page.
well, actually. there is a "soulslike" tag on the steam storepage for this one.
