jk - they're hot :)
But yeah, without the hot character, I don't think it'd be nearly as successful. The combat feel like nothing - it's not weighty at all. Like, I don't "feel" the hits. Kinda reminds me of the weightless of the combat in Sword Art Online.
Still, demo is kinda compelling - I think if I can get over the non-impactful combat, it might be a good time. I'll finish the demo, but haven't decided if I'm going to buy.
Name another game and character like Bayonetta, especially in recent memory.
There you have your answer.
Edit: Also I think a lot of people are hype about games coming from Korea that aren't Korean MMO's and p2w gacha.
Same with the monkey game I forgot the name of lmao from China.
The games feel distinctly different than what we normally see from '' western '' studios.
And people like when studios from other regions do something you normally don't see them do.
When people think of Korean games they practically always think of Korean MMO's and gacha.
I don't think Soulstice is comparable tbh, this game was pushed by Sony that's where a lot of the marketing came from and like I said above it's also a Korean game and people were just inherently interested because it was a Korean game that isn't a Korean MMO which makes it fairly unique in the '' west ''.
Soulstice didn't have the same budget either in terms of marketing and development it was more of a straight up indie game while this is more along the lines of AAA.
I play many games just to "past the time" but they were mid at best. The best examples are free gacha games which most people play. I don't care what anyone says, all gacha games are mid, some maybe better than others.
When the new generation moves away from gacha and live service games and purchase a game that you can actually beat that has a solid foundation, they end up not playing those gacha games or even forget about them because they realize.... wow, other genre's are actually really fun.
Why the hype? There are several reasons.
1 - The game is fun
2 - The game is challenging (for most pro gamers this may not be the case but pro gamers are in the minority).
3 - There is nothing wrong with the game
Most importantly, if you live under a rock, gamers have been forced into politics outside their will. Its a known fact that gamers don't give a f*ck about politics. However, gamergate 2.0 started early last year and gamers won.
This is in relation to sweet baby inc. You know those SJW's or parents that complain about violence or complain about sexy characters? Well, they have taken over the gaming industry under our noses particularly the trans community. When they decide to go to war against their consumers.... lets just say it didn't go well for them.
Game journalists and those who attempted to take control:
-All female characters must not look over serialized or beautiful.
-Jiggle physics must not exist
-White people are the villains while the minority are the good guys.
-All games must have gay people and characters of different color
-All games must be politically correct
-If any game goes against this, game journalist will write a hit piece on the game in mass.
-If you don't fall in line, your game will fail and they will put pressure on your game company
Oh but hot guys are ok (lol)
^insane
Once word of this got out, Stellar Blade became extremely popular, not only because of the hot character but because the game is fun. I think if not for this, stellar blade would have never been as popular as it was.
But......
I still believe one of the major reasons is a lot of games are just mid now. Stellar Blade is not mid.
