A good chance for removing region lock

Someone was asking about the region lock and they responded that they can't wait to share some good news and should expect one just a little longer. Will this be the first Sony published game where the region block will be lifted?

Please try to remember the decision for region blocking is being made by Sony. Shift Up will have an uphill battle unless something in their contract states that Sony can't do that.

They do, but Sony must have exclusive publishing rights for Stellar Blade, while being the deciding factor of where it can ultimately be released. Maybe Shift Up can convince Sony, but we'll see.

I was actually surprised that Sony was even publishing this on Steam, and thought for sure Shift Up for have self-published, which makes me think they can't. I really wanted Shift Up to publish this without Sony, but I guess they didn't have the cards to do so.

I'd expect the next game to be multi-platform from the start, at least with PC, and Shift Up being the publisher, again, at least on PC.

The reason why sony got publishing rights cus they lacked initial funds to develop Stellar Blade and they needed Sony's support to continue further and seeing the success they have now, I think they'll be self publishing their next game project witches, I hope

That's good to hear. I've been building a massive digital library for the last few years. 200+ playstation games. Most of them bought at launch. I felt really marginalized that Sony was region-locking this game on PC. A cautionary tale in purchasing digital products. Think I'll double down on owning physical media.
