SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

Does this game tell the full "Samurai Warriors" story?
I'm unsure in my readings about it whether it's a full story mode or just a collection of side missions. I don't want to play it if it's just spinoff missions, because I don't know the real story yet.

Thank you.

Define Samurai Warriors story? I suppose it does from the perspective of different groups of samurai, different characters than in previous games ie Yukimura Sanada's brother, Shimazu, Mitsunari before he was Hideyoshi's adviser and such.

But it does not give you the story of Oda's rise to power and shogunate, Toyotomi's succession and then Tokugawa's battles with Ishida. You can however piece together the main story of feudal Japan from the different stories piece by piece.

Samurai Warriors 4 probably fills in more, since it's told from the clan/region perspective. SW4-II only tells it from the characters' perspective.

If you are more interested in the history, Nobunaga's Ambition would be a lot more informative. But that is a whole different kind of game. The SW series really varies in each game in how detailed it gets, but none of them are more than a "foot in the door" type of thing. As in, it tells you a bit and might get you interested in the bigger picture. Koei does a better job following the Three Kingdoms timeline in the Dynasty Warriors series, but the major difference is that SW is more character driven, whereas the timelines in DW tend to follow the kingdoms themselves.

This game in particular only has storylines for the added characters in the original SW4 game. So if you are new to the series, it's a bad place to start anyway since it won't tell you about some of the more important characters of the time. If you aren't interested in the strategy game, any of the earlier game would be more better.

This game actually does a really good job of explaining historical events, particularly after Nobunaga's fall. Unlike SW4, which tells it from the perspective of the various factions, this game is much more personal and focuses on stories from the perspective of certain individuals. It's by no means the full picture, but I wouldn't pass up the game just because of that. There is also the biography section in the game that gives more of the historically accurate background of the various characters.

if you want the full cannon story, i'd suggest playing the Chronicles spinoffs, they more or less show everything

If he has Nobunaga's Ambition, that tells the story as well as any Samurai Warriors game, Getting the historical events to trigger can be a pain, but they do a good job with some of the details. It stays closer to the actual history, although there is still a good deal of embellishment of events that aren't well documented. The characters are a little more human as well, since the SW characters usuall devolve into walking stereotypes.

SW goes a lot more into hypotheticals as well, although some of them fall flat. There isn't as much "What if this character had been at some historical battle?" stuff. The bettles themselves are instead changed to match the character's story, rather than the other way around. It's a little less interesting than the alternative, since the historical drama of the time is one of the reasons it's still interesting to people now.

SW4-II is the second half of the story only, so if you want the other half, get any other game or buy Nobunaga's Ambition.

Well one of the storylines covers the Nobunaga Era a little bit more in-depth, but admittedly most of the storylines take place after his assassination by Mitsuhide.
