The hyper attacks were a nice addition in 4, and at least they have got their "baseline" generic SW game now. Every subsequent SW game should be an extension of SW4 in some way. It really is a shame that they've made the characters so unbearable. Stripping them of any ambition, and making everyone fighting b/c of selflessness, which sucks.
I liked how Dynasty Warriors handled their story modes, especially the latest one (DW8XL). KT should do it for the SW series to make it much more interesting.
The story. This is really all about opinion. In the end, who cares on how KOEI writes it. If they survive as a company, that's great. If they don't, well . . . that would be unfortunate. I think everyone here should just let KOEI do their job at developing games. If the story bothers people THAT much, they try CAPCOM's Sengoku Basara. Different story, same timeline in Japanese history of the Sengoku period.
The characters. I fully agree with some not really being played for a longer period of game time. Back in Samurai Warriors 2 & 3, EVERY character was GUARANTEED 5 stages. Let's take Shingen Takeda & Kenshin Uesugi as examples. Back then, they had 5 stages to play before the ending. Now . . . I think they only both get 3 at most. It truly is disheartning to play as 1 of them & not able to later.
In all, I enjoyed how KOEI handled Samurai Warriors 4. Every game has it's up's & down's. KOEI has a website for people to put their input. So I suggest making suggestions their.
I did and I was told that thats not the best place to provide feedback... Which is kinda strange.
Combine the awesome gameplay of SW4/II with the awesome story of DW8XLCE and you have the ultimate Warriors game. I absolutely love how the story was done in DW8, even if it was more of a faction leader focus than personal stories. However, SW4/II combat is far superior to DW8.
Also, was I the only one who thought the English VO in DW8XLCE was actually really good? Especially for Sima Yi, KOEI just nailed it.
Now SW4-II, it is my first time playing SW series, I did play WO3. I can’t feel any good relationship to them. It just weird how they handle this kind of story. I been spoil by the depth that Koei create for DW series. It really felt disappointing. One thing it disturb me about how there is no different mode such as Conquest Mode in DW7 which I really enjoyed. Also I wish they work on the notificiation in the game. It is really slow and I have to sit around for the objective to appear. They should add the option to make the notification quicker to dissolve. If we miss it, that ok we have the battle log in the game. I agree with Dr Chaos, I really enjoy Capcom’s Sengoku Basara. It is different and very anime style. But that what made it fun. I see a few of my favorite character from Sengoku Basara in SW and I hate them in SW. Like Ōtani Yoshitsugu, Honda Tadakatsu, and Nobunaga Oichi. They are really great in SB3, but in SW… ehhh. I just don’t like them. It just like that SW is in the back burner. One thing I really wish that Koei should use the same character progression formula like they did in DW7/8. It force us to try different character than sticking to the same ol’ same ol’.
I would pick SB3 with no subtitle (Capcom too cheap to provide subtitle) over SW4-II. But again I enjoy SW4-II.
Part of the reason I loved the storytelling in DW8 is because KOEI did such a great job of telling the various stories of each kingdom. I really could feel for the characters and in a sense made me believe I was actually in Ancient China.
I don't mind the anime/Japanese humor in Samurai Warriors, but I think it can get excessive at times, taking away from the story. I thought the more personal approach was interesting and KOEI was really trying to drive home friendships being divided between factions, but the stories were just way too brief. KOEI needs to take pointers from DW8 and really flesh out the story in SW if they hope to do it justice.
