SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

Samurai Warriors 4 and ii has to be the worst writing in all of the Samurai games
I can't be the only one who thinks this. Every chance they get, they try to illicit an emotional response from the viewer and cause drama. There is no sequential consistancy across the board because every faction changes up the story of what happened leading up to a certain point. Characters were introduced and killed off immediately so you coulnd't never play them in the story or you could just no straight up play them. ii is about characters stories my butt. Each faction was about 2-3 people and everyone else was just background characters. Its still faction based storytelling, and not that good at that.

They need to revamp the writing if they want the Samurai series to survive. Dynasty Warriors story actually keeps getting better, but nope, the Samurai series writing keeps declining. Except Chronicles. Thats some of the best storytelling since the first game. Just my thoughts.

I agree with you. I saw SW1 & 2 and both had good to great writing. Didn't play or see much of 3 so I can't comment on that. It was annoying in this game how you'd spend time leveling up a character and wasting tomes on them and then suddenly you can't use them for the rest of the story. So stupid.

samurai warriors 4 i can understand, because it's about clan lord's stories, but 4 ii i cannot understand because it's focusing on only 13 characters. how about the rest of the 40??? while chronicles 3 is something really epic, it's a must play.

Good to know. I mainly play SW & DW for the story, which was really good in SW3. If SW4 is sadly lacking, I will probably skip it and wait for a (hopefully) good SW5
Problem with SW3, is the gameplay sucks. So we're stuck with either little story and good gameplay or good story and bad gameplay.

SW3 was very strict with the objectives. But the weapon system was really simple. And I really really liked the costumes, and cutscenes, and overall story much better that 4.

The hyper attacks were a nice addition in 4, and at least they have got their "baseline" generic SW game now. Every subsequent SW game should be an extension of SW4 in some way. It really is a shame that they've made the characters so unbearable. Stripping them of any ambition, and making everyone fighting b/c of selflessness, which sucks.

The battle/gameplay system is definitely an improvement. The hyper attacks are freaking sick and it makes low tier characters from SW3 actually pretty damn fun to play now.

I liked how Dynasty Warriors handled their story modes, especially the latest one (DW8XL). KT should do it for the SW series to make it much more interesting.

I can somewhat agree & disagree. I have played Samurai Warriors since 2. I have also played 3 & 4 as well. I was fortunate enough to have friends have the consoles to play them.

The story. This is really all about opinion. In the end, who cares on how KOEI writes it. If they survive as a company, that's great. If they don't, well . . . that would be unfortunate. I think everyone here should just let KOEI do their job at developing games. If the story bothers people THAT much, they try CAPCOM's Sengoku Basara. Different story, same timeline in Japanese history of the Sengoku period.

The characters. I fully agree with some not really being played for a longer period of game time. Back in Samurai Warriors 2 & 3, EVERY character was GUARANTEED 5 stages. Let's take Shingen Takeda & Kenshin Uesugi as examples. Back then, they had 5 stages to play before the ending. Now . . . I think they only both get 3 at most. It truly is disheartning to play as 1 of them & not able to later.

In all, I enjoyed how KOEI handled Samurai Warriors 4. Every game has it's up's & down's. KOEI has a website for people to put their input. So I suggest making suggestions their.

I did and I was told that thats not the best place to provide feedback... Which is kinda strange.

Agreed. It's worse than pantomime sometimes. I enjoyed Chronicles mode in SW4 but I found myself vomitting constantly at the cutscenes , dialogue and character situations you had t oclick through to get your relationships up. And the main game was almost as bad. Lucky I don't play these games for the story.

The SW series is not so much a story with characters in it, but its characters with a story. Maybe thats why its so hard for the story to be compelling, we just want to see our favourite peeps fight.

I don't think SW4-II's story is that horrendous, it's just not as good as DW8XLCE. My thoughts?

Combine the awesome gameplay of SW4/II with the awesome story of DW8XLCE and you have the ultimate Warriors game. I absolutely love how the story was done in DW8, even if it was more of a faction leader focus than personal stories. However, SW4/II combat is far superior to DW8.

Also, was I the only one who thought the English VO in DW8XLCE was actually really good? Especially for Sima Yi, KOEI just nailed it.
I think some of the Englush voices in DW8XL are kinda sucky, but not having any at all in SW4-II kinda means you have to read every line of dialogue instead of paying attention to what's in front of you.

I might be doing the apple and orange comparison. I been playing since DW6 and really enjoy learning all of the characters. Koei did a good job changing my emotions towards those characters in the game. I used to be a big supporter of Guan Yu until the DW8. I can relate to any character in the game.

Now SW4-II, it is my first time playing SW series, I did play WO3. I can’t feel any good relationship to them. It just weird how they handle this kind of story. I been spoil by the depth that Koei create for DW series. It really felt disappointing. One thing it disturb me about how there is no different mode such as Conquest Mode in DW7 which I really enjoyed. Also I wish they work on the notificiation in the game. It is really slow and I have to sit around for the objective to appear. They should add the option to make the notification quicker to dissolve. If we miss it, that ok we have the battle log in the game. I agree with Dr Chaos, I really enjoy Capcom’s Sengoku Basara. It is different and very anime style. But that what made it fun. I see a few of my favorite character from Sengoku Basara in SW and I hate them in SW. Like Ōtani Yoshitsugu, Honda Tadakatsu, and Nobunaga Oichi. They are really great in SB3, but in SW… ehhh. I just don’t like them. It just like that SW is in the back burner. One thing I really wish that Koei should use the same character progression formula like they did in DW7/8. It force us to try different character than sticking to the same ol’ same ol’.

I would pick SB3 with no subtitle (Capcom too cheap to provide subtitle) over SW4-II. But again I enjoy SW4-II.

Sengoku Basara is way too over the top and ridiculous from what I've heard and read. Samurai Warriors already has a lot of anime flare, but what Capcom does in that game is just way overboard. I like having some realism and a bit of authenticity in the experience.

Part of the reason I loved the storytelling in DW8 is because KOEI did such a great job of telling the various stories of each kingdom. I really could feel for the characters and in a sense made me believe I was actually in Ancient China.

I don't mind the anime/Japanese humor in Samurai Warriors, but I think it can get excessive at times, taking away from the story. I thought the more personal approach was interesting and KOEI was really trying to drive home friendships being divided between factions, but the stories were just way too brief. KOEI needs to take pointers from DW8 and really flesh out the story in SW if they hope to do it justice.
