SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II

How actively do the NPCs fight?
The early "Dynasty Warriors"-games all had this baffling design decision wherein all troops that weren't high-ranking officers and protagonists would barely fight the enemy. Opposing troops would run up to each other and proceed to just stand there, looking at each other, while the player or protagonists mowed them down with zero opposition. This, as you can imagine, destroyed immersion to the point where it seriously turned me off playing the games.

When I bought "Dynasty Warriors 8" on STEAM last year, or so, I was happy to see that this was improved greatly. Soldiers were just as weak as before, but you could visibly see them take swings at each other. It was like how the games should have been all along. This remained the case with that game's expansion, and when "One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3" was released, it had some of the most active NPC fighting I have seen in a "Warriors"-game.

However, I've had a look through some gameplay videos of "Samurai Warriors 4-II", and from what I can see, the game appears to be a serious step back to the bad, old days. It's a bit hard to tell, as few players stand still for long enough for me to see what the NPCs are up to, but all I see are them standing around, passively.

Could anyone who has the game shed any light on this? It's an overriding factor in whether or not I'll buy the game.

Thanks in advance.

From what I can tell, the enemy AI soldiers have a one track mind, they go after YOU a lot, while your troop soldiers just do the stupid circling around a random enemy.

>_> A step back? A STEP BACK??? Tell taht to 3 officers coming at you, blocking your ♥♥♥♥, and doing THEIR special attacks when you have about no time to react... Tell that to the minions that MASSACRED ME when they did a coordinated attack after I busted down a wall.

A step back? No. Try watching somoene on their broadcast on steam.

Thank you for the info.

Irrelevant. I'm not interested in discussing officers and protagonists. I'm talking about low-rank NPCs. If you had read my post, you would have understood this.

Tell that to the minions that MASSACRED ME when they did a coordinated attack after I busted down a wall.

This does not contradict the above poster commenting that they run single-mindedly at the player.

Sounds like 8 Empires on Chaos when you're at Lv.1 and set the enemies to Lv.99. :)
(aka manageable... but eh, maybe I'm just desensitized by Streets of Rage 2's Mania mode runs without continues)

In Dynasty Warriors 8, the NPCs actively fight each other. Are you saying that they do infact do this in Samurai Warriors 4-II, as well?

Please stop spamming, and stick to the subject of the thread.

This flies in the face of all gameplay videos I've seen. Are you sure? Are you using a particularly high Difficulty-setting, or something of the sort?

I meant his thing about the enemies focusing on you. In SW4-II though, no, the troops don't seem to fight each other too much. I do remember 8E being very "immersive" I guess with having troops take swings at each other.

Come back after you've played SOR2 on Mania, Koei's got a ways to go with difficulty.

NPC´s only seem to get a bit more aggressive while under the influence of a banner and even then they are rather passive(dont go in expecting Gundam Warriors level of grunt rape).

Thanks for the reply.

You need to command your partner to do objectives/target specifc unit(E.g standard bearer), else he will just fight the nearest officer/opponent. Also with a overleveled partner with upgraded weapon, they tend to own according to difficulty level set. It's not easy to "mow down" officers and even soldiers on higher difficulty, especially with a low level character.

The other allied officers will also fight just like a non command(free) partner. They don't sit still but go about killing stuff.

Take note, certain gates will only open( even close) after some time or objectives achieved. If an officer is stuck with nothing to kill, he does nothing. Kai Mon!

Remember there's the morale system, better morale and you will see more pop ups regarding enemy officers(not objectives related at times) have been defeared.

Enemy AI will attack you and your partner as priority within a certain distance. There are indicators showing the path they will take. I tend to command my partner to intercept enemy officers located in different parts of map.

There are a lot of indicators that will pop up on the map, how to reach an objective, where enemy officers(objective based) will move, closed door, destroyable walls.etc.

I have absolutely no idea of how anything you said relates to this topic.

I have absolutely no idea of what anything you said has got to do with anything.

Forget that you don't own the game. Nevermind deleting my post then. lol.

It doesn't have anything to do with me not owning the game. Your post had absolutely nothing to do with the topic on how actively NPC troops fight each-other.

I did say officers actively attacking nearest units. They only stop when gates are closed and no where to go.

OP I think only cares about the AI of troop soldiers, not officers.
