I haven't played because its not on pc but SW4 has clan based stories so you will be able to get way more out of it, the drammatic majority prefers it over 4-II. It also has a chronicle mode where you create a character and get some more characterization out of the cast, 4-II replaced it with a bland survival mode.
There would be Spirit of Sanada that is structured differently compared to other SW games and is story driven, but while you get to play the occasional side battle it's mostly all from the prospective of the Sanada clan. The game on pc is very poorly optimized compared to 4-II.
4-ii is not on PC? this is 4-ii discussion forum.
SW4 is the one i can't find on PC.
or its different story.
SW 4-II story doesn't cover several important events and focuses on the point of view of like 15 minor characters. A lot of stages get repeated too, which implies that their stories converge in places. I don't think you would get satisfied by it if you are in it for the story.
If you can get Samurai Warriors 4 on console (PS3, PS4 and PS Vita have it) get that instead.
>in a musou game
wrong franchise buddy. the stories in these games are ♥♥♥♥♥ and only repeat themselves across the entries anyway. Its always the same stories just told differently.
But if you really wanna know then 4 has "more" story, whether you think the story is better is a matter of taste. Gamewise 4-2 is updated in several regards.
4 and 4-2 have identical story modes but, as posted above, different focuses.
4 is focused on clans and campaigns.
4-II is focussed on characters.
For instance, in 4 you can follow the Mori clan as father-son duo Motonari and Takakage overturn the status quo at Itsukushima (the most important non-famous battle of the period imo). Then how they struggle against the invading Oda/Toyotomi before eventually coming to an alliance with them to bring peace to Japan.
In 4-2, this campaign starts with Takakage struggling against the Oda at the point just before they join forces, then later on how they helped quell later battles in Kyushu. The Mori did this in 4, but when you play Kyushu the Mori are the bad guys (and thus weren't initially playable). Same with Shikoku.
4-II is missing a lot of good story battles, and I am sore Itsukushima didn't make it in. Best song in the game was relegated to the options menu in 4-II and though I can change it at will, I used Itsukushima to level grind because I knew it like the back of my hand.
(Seriously listen to Itsukushima on YT. It's by far the most memorable song in the game. Disco Shamisen madness.)
Also said above is how certain battles are repeated. Honnoji, where Nobunaga died, is repeated three times iirc (though one is an alt-history scenario which is a bit of a fresh take). As is Sekigahara, which is a very important battle, but as the game wants you to plat every stage with every character is a bit excessive. I did the stage in Naomasa's story, now I have to play it again as him in Takatora Todo's story just to count it to the trophy.
In 4 you could play Sekigahara twice, depending on who you want to play as, but in 4-II you end up playing it many times depending on the campaign because everyone important to the story modes was there. And as the same people over and over again, as I said.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If I had to tell you to get one, get SW4. And get it on console if you can.
The OG version offers just as much as 4-II, and if you like story then you'll find Chronicle Mode (you roam Japan as a Ronin and befriend everyone) far more rewarding than 4-II's battle castle challenge.
4 is also less grindy. Took me 150 to get all trophies, currently looking at 60+ on 4-II and know a lot of that will be just grinding levels and books.
