Show underwater with the starter bobber
I had no information on the game and simply downloaded the demo. After catching the first shad I was unimpressed, there are many fishing games where you simply put bobbers in and either play rhythm games or fish magically appear on the line.

I'm glad I went back to the shop and actually bought the first jig because only then did I realize it was actually a game and not an idle/screensaver experience. Seeing the fish swimming around and the smallmouth bass take interest in the jig sold it for me

I understand why the player starts off with the bobber, but I really recommend showing the player at least a few inches under the surface when you drop it in, so they can see the fish are actual entities swimming around.

How does that take any more skill? I understand how the mechanic works, that's not what my post is about

I agree with OP on this. While the artwork is beautiful, my initial reaction was met with disappointment as I thought it was more of an idle clicking game versus a relaxing arcade fishing game. I'm thrilled at the underwater artwork and I enjoy the simple yet satisfying mechanics, but I imagine that some people will try the game, become disappointed, and drop it immediately. For the success of the game, if the developers either add the ability to see underwater while the bobber is in use or at least have some kind of initial cut-scene that displays the underwater scenery I think it will help keep people hooked on the game (pun intended). Regardless, June cannot come fast enough!
