Is it possible to get all fish just idling?
I know I am lazy. Like to play idle. I got all 50 fish but I am having trouble getting some XL, XXL and trophys in idle mode. Am I choosing wrong lure and rod and not being patient or its no possible to get the in idle? Tks

The "Legendary" fish (achievement-based trophy fish) have been patched to not be attracted to the lure in idle mode

I really wish they hadn't done that. I specifically bought this because it said it allowed idle play. I just wanted to let my dude fish idle as a nice background screen, choosing upgrades and new rods etc. "Chill".

Nope, won't get the achievements unless I do it "active". Too late to refund now, but all puns aside it feels like a bait and switch. Not the game I thought it was.

I've seen achievement hunters say some incredibly silly stuff here on Steam's discussion forums, and this most-certainly makes the cut - wtf is the point of an *achievement* if you can earn it while actively *not* playing the game. And idling can bring you 9/10s of the way there, but you want a *refund* for being "forced" to finish that 1/10 yourself?? - insanity.

Because it states on the store page that it's able to be played either way. As well, there are a tonne of idle games out there with achievements, they're not mutually exclusive.

It can bring me 9/10'ths? No it can't. I'm at 16% achievements right now, and won't get much more unless I go active.

Insanity? Hyperbole.

For anyone wondering, turns out it's somewhere in the middle currently. If you idle, the legendary fish won't bite. However if you find and then actively bait them yourself and then switch to idle after they bite, fisherman does the rest (though they're a little hit and miss at actually landing them lol).

Lol Just wanted to add to this, though I think it's more a personal preference thing - for me I don't even really see much point in a game if it just completely plays itself yanno? At that point you're not even playing the game... so like.... What, you spent money to watch a game...? lmao
I like a helpful idle mechanic for if maybe I'm playing between tasks cause I've got other crap to do during the day so maybe I can't sit for 4 hours straight or whatever and play actively so a little idle progression is very nice for when I have to get up and do something else for a bit, but if I bought a game to play then like... I'm expecting to actually play it yanno.... lmao
So yeah to ME it makes sense for games (even if they're idle-heavy) to have achievements that require you to actually play the game to get lmao
Pretty sure the devs never said you'd be able to 100% the game + all achievements with idling... just that it HAS idling... But I digress lol

But yeah you can 100% bait a a legendary fish and quickly switch to idle mode if you really wanna
I don't bother with that though myself cause I actually enjoy playing the game lmao

First thing, here's the description from the store page:

"Cast n Chill is a cozy idle (and active) fishing game"

Idle comes first, followed by active in brackets. I foolishly thought words meant things. :)

It's all good, but yeah I thought the game was more idle leaning. The horror.

Regarding playing the game, that's the thing. For a fishing game the fishing isn't so great. Fish does a little spazz animation and somehow just shakes off the hook, like that's a thing fish do. Then a couple seconds later it can do it again, and again. Even tiny fish grab the hook and go offscreen with it, constantly doing their little spazz like fish have infinite stamina.

I used to do a lot of fishing, they really don't. They get tired, and then you can pretty much just reel them in. The challenge is keeping the line taught and your pole with the right arc so the line doesn't snap. Realistically you use higher test line than what you're fishing, so that really doesn't happen unless you're going for huge fish (and let the line go slack). So yeah, you fight them for a while, they get tired and you reel, they fight, they get tired, and you finally reel them in. The fish in this game are apparently on crack and muscle relaxers.

All that said, I enjoy it for what I bought it for. Mostly idle with a smattering of active play, beautiful scenery, chill vibes and catching ling cod and coho, trout and chinook etc. like I did when I was a kid here in BC Canada.

Yeah I guess the choice of wording could be taken as a bit misleading but eh, I guess it didn't bother me personally lmao
I also find that the actual fishing mechanics can be occasionally a little bit silly for what is supposed to be a "chill" game, or at least with maybe where one or two of the legendaries are concerned, but overall I actually kind of like the gameplay. Of course as you stated real fish don't act like that (man I really wanna go fishing fr sometime. Soon....) so coming at it from that angle I'm sure the gameplay would feel jarring. I just personally don't have a problem with it but hey, totally valid you'd feel that way!

what the ♥♥♥♥? The game has the "idle" label, and says it is an idle game, but the fish won't bite on idle mode? This is some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

They do bite, just not the legendary variants. They used to, but ig by the way it sounds seems like they changed it in the latest patch. So all the fish still bite in idle mode *except* the legendaries, which ig now you have to catch actively. Or you can do the "bait the legendary and immediately switch to idle again" thing
Ok tks for all the answers but sorry for my ignorance what are the legendary fish? All the trophy ones or just the different trophy one of the fish have in each area? And is it better to choose yourself the lure and rod yourself based on the book or let the fisherman choose it for you in idle?

Legendary are just really big versions of the fish. Not sure how many per area etc. If you're targeting the legendary fish it's best to use a specific rod and lure, not let the idle guy pick. For regular fishing idle guy does a reasonable job of picking the right gear.

I wish we could like/rate posts but yeah literally this. Go by book recommendations, they're there for that reason
Maybe you could make the achievement idle-able but make it like 200 hours? Or 1,000 hours? Or 10,000 hours? Love the game 10/10 by the way. :happy_explorer:

I don't see why the idle can't catch them. It will still catch trophy-weight for the 37 fish types without a legendary. Any legitimate RTA would not be able to leverage idle for a serious attempt. Even for the first outing on the boat you have to try to go further right to catch the larger fish and not the shad. You need to be able to afford an extra boat slot on the first shop.
