loading labels failed due to an unknown error
Hi there,
I am using valve index and meet this problem these days. I have already searched for solutions. Unfortunately, none of them works for me.

Problem description:
Other software and games work fine (like vr lab, alyx and beat saber). The network connection is good, namely I can visit goole earth on the web.
When I try to open google earth vr, I will have this error 'loading labels failed due to an unknown error'. After I close the error, I can get into google earth vr. However everything detail in the map cannot be loaded when I zoom in or use location transition, which means that I can only see blank or just a ground.

Possible cause:
I tried to edit earth_vr_preference.jason before, because I found it is too slow to load all detail in the map, maybe due to that I have to use VPN to connect and I would like to expand the cache size. After I modified this file, I had this problem.
In addition, it may be also caused by my location in China. However, I have used VPN and can visit google map and street view on web.

Solutions I tried:
I found other people had this problem before and some fixed it. I tried to re-install google earth vr first, but it doesn't help. And also there is a solution using vc_redist to repair for HTC seemed works. However, it doesn't work for me because when I try to click it and install something, it says I have already installed it. Besides, I also tried to configure the auditiong. Nothing changes either :(

If you have any idea, please post here.

Did you try reverting to a default preference file?

Have you tried verifying your files?

Thank you for your reply, I have tried to re-install the google earth vr and delete all files in 'C:\Users\usernamee\AppData\Local\Google\VR', and after I reinstalled it, all files are reset to default I think. But that does not help :(

Hi, thank you for your reply, I have tried to re-install the whole software but that does not help :( Or do you mean to verify other files rather than google earth vr?

I got past it by disabling all firewall/filter apps and letting everything through my network... Then instead of playing smoothly in a little patch of buildings, I got to play the tutorial at 10fps with my controllers flickering back and forth between 2 types.

I have this same issue on a Quest 3 in 2024, will try the firewall fix but reverifying files and running the x64 and x86 didn't work for me sadly.
