HP Reverb G2 Controllers useless with Google Earth VR
Hi,

I just received my HP Reverb G2 and after installing Google Earth VR on Steam all VR peripherals are detected and I am only able to do the Demo tours. It appears the G2 controllers are not yet supported on Google Earth VR.

When I start Google Earth VR and it finishes loading the "Click to start welcome tour." is displayed and the G2 controllers are not responsive. The "Start tour" trigger does not work.

Not sure if I have to manually bind different controller settings but Under Manager Controller Binding I have it at HP Motion Controller (default). Please advise how can I get the G2 controllers to interact with Google Earth VR or do we have to wait until Google or Steam fix this?

Steam VR version 1.15.16

It runs flawless for me with the G2. Try to uninstall/install WMR and make sure you have newest windows upddate H2. Maybe this will help. I start WMR, then the controllers, then steam vr and earth. It shows both controllers in VR. Controller Binding is default. It looks way better than in Rift1. It's awesome.
Edit: dunno if this helps, but I also downloaded OpenXR from the Microsoft app store. And I enabled it in the settings. Then it can be closed.

Hi, Thanks for the feedback. I have H2 Update. I reinstalled WMR, SteamVR, WMR for SteamVR and nothing. I also installed OpenXR and enabled it and nothing. Do you actually see the G2 controller inside the Google Earth VR world. I get different controllers with different combination when opening GEVR but no cigar. All other VR games and apps work flawless except GEVR.

Just a 'me to' here. HP Reverb G2. I can get to the Google Earth VR Click to start welcome tour. See controllers that don't look like the HP ones. When I click the trigger, I can see it reacting in the head set, but it doesn't actually trigger the tour to start. I'm interested if others have gotten their controllers to work as well.

@drman: I see controllers in VR, but they are generic ones and don't match the actual layout. I can navigate everywhere without any problems. I have deinstalled and installed earth again, started it and it wants me to do the tour, I pull the right trigger, the tour starts, I can pause it and skip it, do the tutorial how to navigate and then the whole world is accessible. No problems. This is so strange. My mixed reality portal version is 2000.20111.1381.0 (go to start, type in 'mixed', then right click - app, to see it), G2 Firmware is 1.9.15, HMD driver version is 10.0.19041.2037 (both can be seen in device manager-HMD), controller driver version is the same (device manager, usb, holo sensors), nividia driver is 456.38 (not the latest).
Edit: you can try to use the public beta of steam mixed reality portal ( I have the regular version installed), maybe this helps!

No luck.

- Mixed Reality Portal - 2000.20111.1381.0 - Checked

- G2 Firmware 1.9.15 - Checked

- HMD Driver version 10.0.19041.2037 - Checked

- HID - Both Motion Controller drivers 10.0.19041.2034 (Marty , please verify)

-HoloLens Sensor driver 10.0.19041.2037 - Checked

- Mixed Reality Portal for SteamVR - 1.2.444 (Marty, please verify). Verified in SteamVR room, click on menu in controller and select Mixed Reality Button.

As for the Nvidia drivers I've tried newest, 456.38 and 446.14 and no luck. I also tried using SteamVR beat and no luck. Would not recommend Mixed Reality for SteamVR beta because Google VR cannot be seen through goggles.

My USB controller is AMD? What is yours? Under USB Serial Bus Controllers in Device Manager I see three AMD USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.10 (Microsoft).

Download and install OpenXR from the Microsoft Store app - this got it working for me. Maybe launch it one too to make sure any configuration files are setup.

@drman7: HID - steam WMR version is 1.2.4.4.
I have a intel board.

Where did u look up the HID ( HID - Both Motion Controller drivers 10.0.19041.2034 (Marty , please verify)) ? I'm confused now lol

My last guess is ( and it did work for me when no HP controllers were shown in one app) to delete your steam configs in your steam folder: Steam\config

It will delete all customizations and logins (generic controller etc.). but if this won't work I have no clue how to help you ^^

The only way I got Google VR working was installing Oculus and Revive. Check out MRTV's youtube video - How to play Oculus games on G2. When installing Oculus I created a different FB account and make sure you skip when asked about headset. Many games i.e Lone Echo works great with G2 - MRTV channel goes over a few games on Oculus that works with G2. Make sure you reboot after installing Oculus and Revive. Happy New Year!

Well that worked for me too. I still want to know why sit seems to work for some folks without revive, but I'm mostly happy to finally have it functioning. Thanks for posting back, you've made my day!

FWIW, I had all the same driver versions as you (including the motion controller). I had tried reinstalling Steam / Steam for Windows... / Windows Mixed Realty with no improvement. Custom community bindings didn't seem to work either.

The weird thing is that you could actually see the controller triggers and buttons visually respond in the simulation, but it wouldn't actually trigger the action.

Anyway... happy 2021,

M

This controller issue was fixed for me with the latest beta of SteamVR.

Just wanted to say me too. Exactly my problem and thought I was going crazy as no reports of it on reddit ever. Last ditch effort was to come to steam forum and boom! A handful of G2 users with my issue haha. Exactly as you describe.

WRT steam vr beta, previously this would cause me to not see anything in my HMD when starting GEVR. I would just look at a blank steam vr screen.

I will try the beta tonight, I will cycle the beta and non beta of WMR steam app and I will try the OpenXR as well. I don't really want to have to use Oculus and revive haha.

THanks everyone for posting here and helping. Fingers crossed.

No combination of beta or non beta of steam vr and wmr for steam works for me. When I turn on wmr beta google earth doesn't even show on my HMD and only plays on 2D screen. This is just a joke. So crap :(

it works for me when I launch from inside steam vr but not when I launch google earth before launching steamvr, I'm not using any of the beta stuff

It's garbage for me too on my new G2. THe controllers on screen flick rapidly from vive controllers to G2 controllers without the ring. Several times a second. THe frame rate is garbage also. Utterly unusable, even after installing openxr as suggested above.
