Development on Google Earth VR Platform
Hey, this might be already an existing discussion but I couldn't find it - so if this already exists just redirect me!
I am looking to find more information upon when Google Earth VR will be opening options for development work and specifically how they are planning on implementing this. Any help in this area would be great. I'm familiar with their previous setups for Maps and Earth, just wanted to see if there was any additional information for the VR piece of this.

I am also interested in this. I'm looking for ways to leverage the use of Google Earth VR with clients. While the current App is amazing, the next logical step would be moving to add some of the same functionality available in the standard Google Earth, such as uploading or adding 3rd part spatial data or imagery (i.e.: LIDAR), which would bring practical usage of the App to a whole new level when it comes to collaborative planning and presentation on major projects like the ones I work on (i.e.: pipelines, roads, electrical transmission lines, etc...). As I am an end-user, not a developer, I am wondering if there are any developers out there that either currently working on something along these lines or that are willing to work with a technical neophyte (me) in pursuing it?

Just wanted to throw this link up here for other people: Google is working on a way to incorporate this into Unity3D - it probably won't be directly Google Earth, but more in line with their Google Maps API that should have broader access to 3D content capabilities. Then just combine OpenVR and you will have the skeleton structure to make this sort of application.

Previously this was in beta - I requested access to this on three different occations, and on each occation I got the same automatic response of that they were overwhelmed with requests :) Looks like they now offer an API key that you can $$ for.

Here's the original blog post back in March:

Google Maps Platform Blog Post [mapsplatform.googleblog.com]

Here's the link to Google Maps Platform where you can get your API key setup.

Google Maps Platform Request[cloud.google.com]

To be clear: this isn't the same thing as Google Earth, but the data behind the scenes is.

Cheers and hope this helps!
