Earth VR without touch?
I don't have touch controllers for my rift CV1 but I really want to try Google earth vr. Is there any way to control it via the xbox controller or even keyboard and mouse? I mainly use my rift for sim racing and as such, I'm not really interested in spending £100 on touch controllers.

If it's "can't afford" then fair enough - but if it's "I don't see the point" then I do have to emphasise that VR without touch controllers is like... well... it will be the best £100 you've spent in a long time (insert dubious double entendre as desired).

Seriously - VR needs touch controllers as much as it needs positional headset tracking. It's a crippled experience without it.

+1

Motion controllers is 50% of the VR experience in my opinion.

True and true. Google Earth VR does NOT need the touch controls, the x-box and even the hand controller would work just fine.

However Touch is a cool way to interact in 3D, I would wait for the next generation if money is the issue. They need a few tweaks. An advance glove would work better.

It's true this probably could work without motion controllers, but it was originally designed for the Vive which comes standard with them.

IMHO, this is why motion controllers need to become part of the standard kit for VR, so developers won't need to worry anymore about what sort of control schemes people have.

So I bit the bullet and went out and bought myself the touch controllers.....

WOW! they are soooo worth the £100, I am utterly blown away by google earth in VR, it's simply stunning!

I hope they ease up and allow mouse control - X/Y for lat/long, and mouse wheel for altitude. Especially since motion controllers are not something you can actually buy if you have the nerve to buy anything other than vive or occulus. I've got a Pimax, and it's great, but I'm still waiting for 3rd party motion controllers to be available for love or money.

Or allow a steam controller or x-box controller - stick for movement and touchpad or bumpers for altitude - how hard could it be?

Here is my issue.

Google earth is perfect for people who are disable, but motion controls make it hard for some of them.

For people who can't leave the house much and can't move around well. This program is a dream come true, but the lack of controller support makes me wonder why? Not everyone likes motion controls, or can use them.

That is pretty cool. Can it be setup with a controller?
