That subscription,
must be coming directly from someone who never used his brain.
Why the hell would i pay for a subscription for such a game?
Make it a one time payment, and dont hide it behind the "free to play" tag, when it simply ISNT free to play, once you are ranked.
This is shady tactics, if you expect to make money that way, you know nothing about the Steam Community! lol
If you keep it up that way, you might as well take down the game right now. You will get review bombed into oblivion, and trust me when i tell you: Thats a one way ticket, with some very rare exceptions of some games, who managed to fight their way back. (NML)

I would have bought this for 10-15 maybe. Paying for a subscription however? No way in hell. And one look at the reviews tells me, the majority got the same opinion. So good luck with this "release". You will need it.

you think they’ll be able to afford running the Google Maps API with one time buys? it’s not really a stable way to support the monthly expenses of it.

I dont think they will be able to, this way either. ;)
And realistically, how much % of all the people subscribing, you think will purchase another subscription after a year? 1 time purchase, plus selling some cosmetics... i highly doubt thats a less stable way, because more ppl will spend that way. Subscriptions are dead nowadays. This aint the year 2000.
I mean, you can have your opinion, sure... But the reviews aint lying. 69% negative? You think this is STABLE?? :D

Absolutely right! I was so hyped for a free version of GeoGuessr and I couldn't be more disappointed. As you said, 10-15 one time purchase I would do, but subscription after 5 games?????
I think the monthly fees for the API are about 5k. It couldve definitely worked with single purchases, maybe even some cosmetics for your avatar with microtransactions ( i hate it but never use it anyway ). Remember, they are already making $$$ on the browser version so i doubt monthly fees are the issue.

They just greedy

pretty much every other online game ever made can run their continuous online services off one time payments so like, yes?

Users do not care about api sh*t. It is not users work for to know that stuff. People just want fair prices for the fair piece of content. This game is 1% of a browser version, have no monthly subscription, only yearly, and buggy as hell. What’s the point of a steam version if it is so fu*ked up in every way.

Other online games don't have to pay as much to run the game
