Steam Edition FAQ
Do I have to pay to play GeoGuessr Steam Edition?
GeoGuessr Steam Edition is free to download, however, to access the full Solo Duels experience you will need to purchase one of the following.

  • A Steam Pass: This is purchased in-game after completing your first Amateur Division, and gives you full access for a year.
  • A Yearly Unlimited Subscription: Purchased on an existing account created through the GeoGuessr browser experience.
  • A Yearly Elite Subscription: Purchased on an existing account created through the GeoGuessr browser experience.

For other GeoGuessr browser subscriptions you will need to purchase the Steam Pass.

If you do not have any of the above, free play includes:

  • Unlimited access to Amateur Division.
  • Unlimited access to unranked Team Duels.

Do I need a GeoGuessr account to play?

You do not need an existing GeoGuessr account to play on the Steam Edition. Upon starting the game for the first time, you will have the option to create a new account through Steam. This will require purchase of the Steam Pass.

Please Note:

  • You cannot link the Steam account created to an existing GeoGuessr account.
  • Purchasing the GeoGuessr Steam Pass does not grant you access to the GeoGuessr Browser version.

If you create an account this way by accident; please contact our Customer Support Team [www.geoguessr.com] and we can help you delete this account so you can link an existing GeoGuessr account.

Can I link my GeoGuessr Browser account to my Steam Edition account?

Yes, you can! Upon starting the game for the first time, you will have the option link an existing GeoGuessr account to your Steam profile. If this account has an Unlimited or Elite Yearly Subscription you will get full access to the Steam Edition.

Remember! If you have another subscription type on the GeoGuessr Browser version, you will need the Steam Pass.

Is GeoGuessr Steam Edition cross play?
GeoGuessr Steam Pass holders will be able to play against GeoGuessr Browser subscribers and vice versa, however your friends list will be populated with friends on Steam only.

Hi, what does it mean amateur division?
Are there planned to be differences between the Steam version and the other releases of GeoGuessr? Or is the goal for the Steam version to eventually align in content offerings with the others?

Sounds like every time you guys make a decision you choose whichever option screws your playerbase the most :smilepoop:

Too bad, I would have bought it full price if it was a one-time payment. The subscription system doesn't suit me.

It's not a subscription, the Steam edition is a one time purchase.

Calling it a "Steam pass" means in 99.9% a subscription. Otherwise they would just call it "Steam Edition" and make the Game cost like 40€

And for the free part in amateur league they would just add a free demo mode.

I don't know what you, as developers, are thinking? Is it difficult to make data interoperable and pay monthly subscriptions? Or do you have something to hide? If the purpose of your initial launch of the Steam version is to attract new players, then I think you are totally wrong. At least the current situation does not allow you to do such a stupid thing. If I were you, I would generously announce that the Steam version of the game will be completely free for a limited time for 1 month, and the data will be fully interoperable with the web version. At the same time, I would give those players who have already obtained membership on the web version a little gift to let them join the Steam version to gain greater exposure and get on the homepage in order to attract more Steam players to experience geoguessr. If you do that, the result will definitely be much better than it is now. As a developer, you give the players an impression that you are too arrogant, not to mention your publicity. If I, as a passerby player, hear such rumors from you, I will definitely give up playing this game. Your behavior is so stupid that I can't stand it and make such comments. If you don't want the Steam version to end up with a tragic end, then please think about it carefully.
Why do you need to buy a pass?
Even on the GeoGuessr App ranked Duels are conpletely free.
Also, you said the Pass gives you acces for a year, does that mean that you have to rebuy the Steam Pass every year?

I quote the Dev notice the Steam pass gives you access to the game for a full year.

Thus it is essentially a differently named subscription of course not recurring, but it means yearly you'll have to pay for it. Which is a subscription btw.

Will a new inventory be created for my avatar's items/cosmetics on my Steam account, and will they be sellable on the Steam Marketplace or tradable between friends, if so?

saying it as one-time purchase and having validity of 1 year is not one time purchase. its subscription that you have to get every year.

there literally stands "for the year"

The Steam Edition Steam Pass is one-time purchase giving you access to full game for the year

So what now?

''The Steam Edition Steam Pass is one-time purchase giving you access to full game for the year (it is not a reoccurring subscription).''

It's a one-time purchase per year by the look of things but the 'subscription' doesn't renew so you'll have to buy the pass the following year again.
