"Cannot Takeoff/use throttle" *FIXED*
I do not take credit for this fix. I found it on another website while searching for answers for another Dosbox game. It turns out that there is an issue with Dosbox and some keyboard drivers that prevent the equal key "=" from working. Since that is the key used to throttle forward in this game, without it you are left sitting on the runway unable to do anything.

In short: Check your device manager, and look for any keyboards that mention Japan, or the numbers 109 or 106. Reinstall those devices with generic US keyboard drivers (directions are in the link provided, or check Google for step by steps). Your keyboard should then get proper drivers installed, and Dosbox will be able to detect it better, and use the keys properly.

The details are part way down the linked page, in a lengthy post by "pokey".

Frankly, I don't find the instructions there to be particularly clear... Or perhaps it's just me...

But all I figured out so far is, that I don't seem to have Japanese drivers installed (there is no mention of Japan, "109" or "106" anywhere).
So, what exactly do I do next? I tried switching the keyboard layout to US, but it had zero effect on the game (although It did switch functions of a number of keys)...
I'm sure I mentioned it before, but I had the same control issue on an old 1992 PC.

Ok, let me see if I can do a step by step. Probably should have in the first post.

The first thing to do is go to the Device Manager. (How to get there depends on your version of windows, easiest way is usually to go through the Control Panel, or right click on My Computer, go to Properties, and find it in there.)

Then, go down to Keyboards.

Look for anything saying Japan, MCIR 106, or MCIR 109, or anything unusual like that. That is likely your culprit.

Then, right click it, update drivers. Choose drivers from your computer, choose from a list, pick basic drivers (HID Compliant if you're using USB). Let it install, reboot, then test out the game again. Once you're on the runway, press the +/= key next on the main keyboard (NOT the numpad) and see if it starts accelerating.

I found keyboards in the Device Manager. But I could find absolutely nothing saying "Japan, MCIR 106, or MCIR 109". There were just two Microsoft's and one Kasperski file listed under driver details. And none had the number 106 or 109 in it. I couldn't find any mention of Japan either. I'm running Win 7 64, if that helps...
Or am I looking at the wrong thing?
