Sound issues
When I set up music and digital sound, the sound is garbled when the game is lauched. If I setup music only, I have no problems. Both music and digital = garbled sound. Any ideas on a configuration that will allow both music and digital sound to work? I am running WIN7 64.

Thanks.

That JEMM memory manager part is important. Worked for me and digital sounds now work.

I know this is a two and a half year old thread but I need help. I am trying to find the exact location to put the line "JEMMEX FRAME=E000 LOAD" in and where ever I put it does not work. I thought the most logical place was after the ems=false instructions but still get very corrupted digital playback. Any help would be appreciated.

Very late reply but hopefully it helps someone.

You will need to find the dosbox_1942_TPAW_launch_windows.conf file in your PAW install directory. Edit it so it looks like this:

[autoexec]
mount C ".."
C:
CD MPS\PACIFIC
JEMMEX FRAME=E000 LOAD
CLS
1942.EXE
EXIT

You will also need to place the JEMMEX.EXE file in the MPS\Pacific\ folder so it's sitting in the same directory as 1942.exe.

The JEMMEX.EXE file can be found in this archive:

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/dos/emm386/jemm386/JEMM578B.zip

Once you've done that you should be good.

OK Cool, if you have any more issues let me know an I will test on my end.

hi, actually i just got round to testing it again and sadly the machine gun and explosion sounds are missing. I my own copy of TPAW that i was able to test against - and i did all the same sound changes and conf file changes as for this one, and that version has the sound effects, so i am thinking there is something wrong with this steam version?

It's very annoying but the only way I could play with gunshot sound was by disabling digital sound, just put (NO SOUND) on the digital setting option. It is better than being without the sound of shooting among others. I watched some videos on youtube of the game with digital sound and the sound of machine guns and blast is another level, but unfortunately I could not make it work in this version of steam. It is absurd that this cannot be solved. If anyone knows of a solution please let us know.

I've added a guide to the Guides section that resolves all sound issues. You can have all digtized sounds including guns and pilot voice messages. On top of that some other tweaks for better performance and full flight stick support.
