Items traded to party members lost when leaving a mission
I was on the mission getting Gaichu, and was about to give him the Emperor's Sword I had shoved in my pocket when I remembered that a medkit that Is0bel picked up on her mission disappeared. So, I made a save file before giving Gaichu the sword. Sure enough, when the mission ended, the sword disappeared.

Now, the interesting thing is that I went back to that save file, got Gaichu, gave him the sword, then made another save file. I then loaded that new save file and found out something interesting: when you reload a save file, any items a character is holding, even the ones you give them, becomes locked to that character. If you give them an item, then you can't get it back. So, what I think is happening is that these items get locked to the character, and when you go back to the hub their inventory is refreshed, deleting all of the items they had before and replacing them with their standard loadout.

Thoughts?

I experienced the same bug. I picked up the Emperor Sword and went back to Heoi. Upon starting up the next mission (Nelson Ma's party), I tried to equip it on Gaichu but he was not at the appropriate level. After the mission completed, I went back to the safe boat, talked to the rest of the team, went to various shops and rested. Upon launching the next mission, I tried to equip Gaichu with the sword, but I noticed it missing from the item list!

Concur on this 'feature'.. I mean bug. Never ever give one of your compatriots an item.

Dev's, please fix this so that any items beyond their normal load-out get dropped back into the stash instead of just dropped.

This is still a problem 3 months later.

Agreed. Currently suffering from the same problem.

Hesitant to give Duncan the Prototype Laser Sniper because I don't want to lose it after one mission.

... And now, for some reason, it *didn't* happen.

Well, that was random.

EDIT: I think I've figured it out. Basically, if you save in a mission and then reload, the items you loaned will vanish after the mission is over. However, if you complete a mission without reloading, the items won't vanish.

^ This is not the case. Did a no-save museum run because saves wouldn't load after first section. Restarted, did the whole mission with zero saves. No items sent to crewmates passed on.

Unless it also applies if you restart, too?

Just want to note this is a horrifying bug that needs immediate attention from the game developers, either way. It's not game breaking but it's certainly pretty bad.

I just noticed this bug. Basically stuff I give to NPCs disappears after missions. So I wanted to second this request and say I am also experiencing it.

When you say 'no items sent to crewmates passed on', do you mean no items were lost?

Anyway, if that's the case? As I mentioned, save *in the middle of a mission* and reload and the items get lost. Reloading the mission start autosave (where you assign items to your characters) doesn't have any such problems.

Or at least, that was the case for me. Basically, reload *before* you passed on items, and you're fine. Finish the game *without* reloading a save in the middle of the mission, and you're also fine. Reload a save in the middle of the mission, and say goodbye to your items. From what I read elsewhere, it might be because in such a scenario, those loaned items get treated as items locked to the characters in question.

It's a major pain, yeah, especially since certain items are unique and you can lose them this way if you aren't aware of the bug. If you need to, I'd recommend the Shadowrun Save Editor to give yourself the items again. It's cumbersome (especially since items added to your stash aren't recognized through it, meaning you have to modify existing items or change your equipment directly), but it'll do the trick.

Still needs to be fixed, though. That's just a shoddy workaround.

As the creator of this thread, after one of the patches I haven't had the problem anymore, even after saving mid mission and checking to see if items get locked to characters. That said, I haven't played the game in several months after beating it, so I don't know if the fix somehow got undone. All I can say is check to make sure that you have the latest patches, maybe uninstall and reinstall the game (backup your save files, or make sure it's linked to the cloud).
Dimensionist Dec 21, 2015 @ 9:53am
Well, I *do* have the latest patch, but I typically play the game with the HK:Slap Patch mod that fixes a lot of bugs and errors in the game. Is everyone who's still having problems using it as well? If so, that might be the problem.
RearedLogarithm Dec 21, 2015 @ 10:27am
First time I've heard of the patch. When was it made? If it was made before the patch that fixed the error I had with it (some time around August 26th, don't know which one exactly) that could be the issue.

Just to note, as the guy who makes and maintains the Slap Patch (thanks for the mod plug! :P ) I've not attempted to fix the "items vanish" bug in it, as I have assumed this is almost certainly an *engine* bug, not something user-fixable with the tools we have or can hack with (in the same way as was the leyline issue HBS fixed for us last patch).

While I'd love to be the novahot hero that fixed what is obviously the most glaring and problematic bug in SRHK (though I've neither encountered nor tested for it), I think this one might need HBS' deckers to patch, and as long as folks are sending them direct bug reports on this (via their website contact form), there's little else we can do sadly.
WoundedRonin Dec 22, 2015 @ 12:44pm
Strange bug. I didn't encounter it till my second playthrough. Would have thought it wouldn't be too hard for HBS to fix, though.

I've experienced this too. I did the mission OUTSIDER (Whampoa Gardens, investigate the killings of the Whampoa Elders), and got the Shock Glove. I gave it to Duncan, so he'd have more nonlethal attacks to use with his Subdue ability.

Not only did the item LOCK when I reloaded my save later (Duncan treated it as part of his own kit, meaning I couldn't take it back off him), but after I completed the mission and started the next one, the Shock Glove was totally gone from his inventory and nowhere in my Stash.

There is something REALLY wrong with how items are managed in party member inventories. Right now, it's ENTIRELY unsafe to give them ANYTHING beyond their default kit.
Unbearable Jan 1, 2016 @ 7:02am
I get this nonsense bug with everything I give my party. medkits to doc wagon cards, they just seem to eat it. Horrible coding to let a bug like this out, and worse is seeing how LONG it has persisted. Must be sloppy coding or some very random glitch someplace. Kind of regret getitng the game as a gift for the holidays with these and other issues abounding ;/.
