I really wish dwarves weren't the best mages.
I don't have a problem with it, or anything. I just like playing mages and don't like playing dwarves, especially because their portraits are terrible and Is0bel is already in the party.

This is a source of frustration for me.

Why... do you think dwarves are the best mages? Because of the higher Willpower max? In my experience you're never gonna hit 9 in a stat anyway unless you're trying to make a point. Any race will do just fine as a mage.

A 9 willpower/spellcasting mage is already quite powerful...you can spend those last 21 points on other useful things like quickness/dodge or charisma/shamanistic magic.

I think there are some decent dwarf mage portraits though.

Oh, I know that the other races can do just fine. It just bothers me on an aesthetic level.

Don't you judge me.

You're stat-ist, that's what you are.

They have always had high will power, even in the pen and paper.

I'm playing with human mage now: 9 Willpower, 9 Spellcasting + two trinkets which give me 2 Willpower and 1 Spellcasting in addition. So, I'm basically equal to a top dwarven mage

Well ... no. Because a top dwarven mage would have those same trinkets, and would be sporting a 13 to your 11.

Although on the plus side, humans have one whole point of karma advantage over dwarves.

Sure, but it would be a huge waste of KP. With 11 Willpower and 10 Spellcasting I very rarely have a hit chance below 70%, even without additional buffs (dragon lines, Aim spell etc.). It's quite enough :)

I find it kind of funny since in most other settings dwarves usually have an adverse relationship to magic, in some dwarven wizards are just rare, in some they have bad stats for magic and in some they outright can't use magic.
And in Shadowrun they're the most optimized race to use magic of the lot, even though the more racist elves look down on others because they're the race that's "made of magic" XD

I must say that on my second playtrough I built a dwarf mage and it is the first time ever I choose a dwarf in any game, thats coming from an old WoW alliance player lol

I think magic sucks in this game, might be my bad luck but i'm only satisfied with high willpower, anything lower than 8 and I can't hit anything

The willpower is given because they are more like magic resistant. Everyone has a fair chance at being magical in Shadowrun.

Right, didn't mages use Int in most editions of the tabletop game?
Mjollnir49172 Aug 25, 2015 @ 5:47am
I was using an elf mage in the second shadowrun.
I put the 9-11 points in body/dodge and just stay in the middle of the fight spamming spells and being nearly immortal in my leylane. I'm not regretting it . :wrynhappy:
