I am curious about something. After this run your entire team is angry with the Elf. If you side with him they grudgingly accept it. if you betray him they approve.

Why?

Sure he lied about his motives...so what? Welcome to Shadowrun, where Johnsons aren't always entirely forthright about their motives. He offered a job. The job was accepted. Make the dropoff and say goodbye.

What was the betrayal, exactly? His own security team?

That just seems prudent. He knew Seoulpas was on his trail. I suppose it's possible he might have intended to ambush the team but that's never made explicitly clear. Even in the recording you watch if you hack the camera feed before meeting him he only tells them to get into position. That could just as easily mean "Position to protect me if this goes wrong" as it does "Position to ambush the runners so we can stiff them on the bill".


So why is he the "villain" of the story as far as Duncan, IsO, and Gaichu are all concerned?

He certainly doesn't try anything of the sort if you simply hand him the data as per contract. Doesn't really have a reason to either; it should hardly surprise anyone that Tir looks unkindly on that sort of research and it's not like offing your bunch would help cover up their involvement at that point anyway given that the Seoulpas already know of it and the IS can't realistically expect to keep the word from getting out into the wild, for what little it matters.

I know there have been some recent updates to the game, but i have not played them yet. Can anyone tell me if they finally changed the dialogue in this quest to make it clear DURING the quest that the Tir Op is gonna screw you on the bill?

Bull. At the moment where he puts a pittance of the amount he promised in my hands, I put a gun in his face and demand the rest. I don't just head on back to the homeship acting as if I didn't just get screwed, so the rest of the crew can whine about how I just got screwed. Honesty doesn't enter the equation. A bargain was struck. I deliver my end, he delivers his. If he fails to deliver his, the crap hits the fan right then and there on that spot, amidst the still-warm bodies of the Seoulpas guys I just dropped.

Well its a shame that this wont work since you dont know any other payment is succesfull untill you meet fixer. So even if he tells you OK everything is all right, leaves and sends you a finger, you are powerless until your Johnson decides to do something about that.

in fact IIRC you never receive direct payment from client, it also flows through triad

Yet after the mission everyone talks about it as if I knowingly let him stiff us. So regardless, one way or another, the dialogue in this mission seriously needs an overhaul. Because something is clearly being lost in translation here.

This is the only mission in the game so far where i felt completely at a loss for a choice due to the lack of explanations on ANYTHING. I'm glad i chose to "spoil" this bit for myself and found this thread with the missing pieces; I went straight to drop them all as a result.
It doesn't seem to me picking either sides is a 'good' result for a shadowrunner's rep and etiquette - Being that either side is basically screwing you and the fixer over.

FYI - IIRC i got 1600 nuyen (and 1 karma, oddly enough) for this pick vs the 1000 mentioned in this thread for helping Tigeth.

Doing this run right now for my second playthrough and how do we know the guy is screwing us and will kill us ? I have read your 5 pages long thread and seems like you guys forgot to take into account the first part of the mission and bucle up this is gonna be (almost) the whole re-transcription of the ending ! (I'll just go with the option I picked though, it should be enought) (TLDR at the end) :

Alright, so first off we need to remember what was the job....scientist work on an horrible project, scientist got a conscience, scientist want the world to know about it, scientist pays you to steal the data and leak them yourself to the world so your team get the agro, the guy don't get the heat and his familly is not killed. Basically you should just steal the data, tell him "yo its done" and he wires you the nuyens...

-you tell the guy you are ready to have the payment

-Tigath : there is a complication, I can't pay you until we meet in person. I have a tail on me. I think the SEOULPA [who says he didn't knew ? or bringing shady ending dialog as proof he knew? Guys! It is like the frakking first thing he tells you ! CMON! ] are watching me. I can shake the tail but I need to ensure my safety before this is done. [yeah cause him touching his comlink screen to aprove a transfer of nuyens would of course result in the Ring knowing he is the johnson of the run of stealing the datas and everything (we still think he is a scientist by thit point, and he doesn' know he is tapped (neither do we yet in fact)) ]

-Min: Basics: ring is employed by Eastern Tiger to prevent teft of project Omega [that you just have stolen] a project that Tigath has been attempting to aquire for some time. The entire reason the datas and sample are being shipped to Seoul, is a botched shadowrun on the Eastern Tiger facility in Tacoma. Tigath was the johnson of this run. Reveals that Tigath is from Tir. [This botched run added to the fact that Tigath is not a scientist with a conscience could already makes you believe he want the datas for "himself" instead of the original story of you posting them .... so he (maybe) want them for himself....that could explain why he want a meating......but then......why did he told you that whole story about you needing to post it instead of him if he just wanted it...mmmm......to quote Is0bel: it stinks....really stinks]

-Min elaborate his theory about the Council of Princes suppressing research about elven longevity [here my first thought was: "the guy will clearly kill me since I know too much (again keep adding with everything else that doesn't addup and you should recheck if you have a survival instinct if you don't come to that conclusion....."the guy clearly is on the level, you bring the thing and he apy you! He kept his end of the contract!" .....execpt that this was NOT the contract.....so you killed the Ring, he pooped his pants, tried to pay you so he can stay alive (surely to send another team to kill you, that he won't need to kill since they won't know anything .....but maybe to cover tracts being him, I'd have that other team killed too....so just keep alive the third one...(can't keep killing every team you send killing another team lol]

ok so Min continues : Tigath attempted to intercept ET's cargo at every port it's landed at. Tacoma was first strike. Second in Perth, third near the Riau Islands, against the very ship uou are on now. Don't think for a moment Tigath will esitate to kill you as soon as you hand the data over to him. [of course I don't! All of this just smell ambush! ] Then he makes his offer to side with him and kill Tigath and "whatever hired guns he's brought along"


-then whatever choice you make doesn't really matter, unless you want to side with the Ring and he can show you the result of the Tacoma run.... not pretty...


I'm really tired and odds are nobody will ever read that anyways so I won't botter with debating what is there during the second part in details expet that Tigath body gards were not there for the Ring, nomatter what he says AFTERWARD , he told you he could shake the tail.... logical thinking would be : the "boddygards" are there for your blood.... unless he lied about that too and didn't thought he could shake the tail? Still....in this case why not just telling you he have bodyguards ? OH cause he's suposed to be a scientist that DON'T WANT THE DATA ....except he want it.....yup.... also had him expected the Seoulpa to be there...wouldn't that had resulted in him having the upper on them this time ? Nop he still says "so this is how they ALWAYS had the upper hand (or something like that)....AND....if you and your team are asked for a run to escort johnson into a remote village and kill the runners he's meeting with.....would go in armed with your assault canon or just looking like his bodygard so you don't attract too much attention ? ....cause you know....the team don't know you will be there....cause he told them he is an alone scientist ...and you don't want the locals to tip them just in case ? ........(granted, you might go pink mowhak on it ..... still )


My point is already made anyways : Tigath planned to screw you over. If your still unconvince by now....well lucky you the events turned how they did cause otherwise you'd be feeding the fishes and Kindly would have to find a new team.




TLDR: Job is to get datas and leak them to "the world"so johnson don't get the heat, things change and johnson want to meet in person for paying you, this smell bad, team members tells you that's how runners get killed, third party tells you with proof that johnson as lied about everything and want datas for himself. Somehow some people still think that you killing him is bad and he would have never turned against you. Somehow that him taking the data and giving you almost nothing for it (and your life ;) at least he let you walk away...cause he's afraid of what could happens if he tried to kill you ) is him keeping to the contract (even if that was NOT the contract......so yeah on my next run I'll turn this logic around, accept to steal a mcguffin and bring it to the johnson, keep macguffin for me ans even maybe selling it to someone else and ask johnson to get to full pay cause I stayed thrue to the contract, or even better at this point why botter stealing it, jut pay me now Johnson and look at me walking away claiming "it was the contract" ....yeah....I don't think so....)
