Special weapons or abilities? (probably spoilers)
So.. Did I miss some tricks and treats, or does it seem like all your group members are able to get way more cool abilities and unique stuff over your main character?

I mean it was the same in the other game and all. but in the previous games the extras abilities weren't as neat. So it didn't stand out that much.

In this one I sort of always feel like... I'm deficient as a runner. LIke my character missed some "lessons of the shadows" pamplet the others got.
Your by no means weak of course. I just feel very generic i suppose?

In the previous game I felt pretty unique once I got my hands on some special weapons (looking at you multi shot grenade launcher!) but so far in this one I haven't seen any terribly unique weapons or maybe I just missed them..

There is that bleed gun. which while neat isn't exactly amazing so far (though I didn't poor points into pistol because it didn't seem very shiny) they sell the shotgun pistol in the store as an average weapon (and I think I saw an enemy use it.. or at least it seemed like it)

Laser sniper rifle too. Which I was somewhat sad was a sniper rifle I admit.

So far the monofiliment whip is what makes me feel the most unique bad ass..

So does anyone else have moments of feeling like that random nobody who follows the main characters around?

Anyone have any cool builds that stand out as unique in the world?
Other than the never realoding turret style haha. Fun of course but not my bag.

Since no on in the main group has any real magic blasting. I'm going to try a mage later. I might also try a rigger.. but those also feel kind of lesser when you have a semi autonomis-rage of a psychopath drone on the team.

So so far I'll probably try a spellscaster or a punchy person see how that rolls on the uniqueness scale.

I only played mage so far, so can't help with the special weapons and what not, but I think a mage runner in this game does not lack behind that much. Although there are some new restrictions that hit the mages pretty hard (no mage armor for you, unless you're willing to go shaman), so the class is not as OP as it was in Dragonfall Director's Cut, but it still pretty good.

Be careful with the Dragon Lines though...

The two you mentioned are probably your best bet for unique. Also, no, you are not the only one that felt this way. I do not mind it so much as I always bring them along and I control all of them. Alas, I have to admit, would be nice to have some unique abilities as they get. Can't help but be jelly of Ractor and his unique drone.
While the NPCs get unique attacks they all fall pretty short of the real deal.
Gaichu utterly lacks damage compared to a melee skilled PC of any kind.
Duncan´s THC is rather meh compared to a range skilled PC(as well as lacking that sweet minigun).
Gobbet is pretty much just a haste dispenser(especially if heir shiny tone bugs out)and so on.

As for playing a rigger, dont feel bad about it.
A fully specced rigger with 2 high-end drones utterly blows Rectar´s silly support antics and his pet out of the water.

Yeah, the passive bonuses from high drone combat skill basically are the same as all Racter's active bonuses combined. I like drones. :)

You probably know, that you can equip your crew by now with stuff? You could buy a Vindicator for Duncan. You could buy a better weapon for Gaichu, though his to hit will still need buffing. And of course you could get Gobbet two more spells and a better Smg. As long as they have freeslots in the respecitve column, you can slot stuff in.
Yes but after I had my game bug out and the equipment I loaned vanishing I started to ignore that feature.
Even then, some special abilities are bound to their respective main guns so its not like that utterly aleviates the problem,as well as them just wasting slots on useless items(especially Gob)and all round not being as effective at their respective roles as a fully skilled PC.

And lastly the game is incredibly stingy with cash making you chose between outfiting yourself fully or throwing away your money on subpar support.

I'm near the very end of the game and I agree with you. I'm playing a rigger and was totally jealous of Racter. While my two top tier drones with 4AP each are more effective than Racter. I feel generic and dull compared to him. Racter is more fun to play with than a generic Rigger.

There was one mission where you steal a prototype drone. I was hoping you'd have the option to keep the drone for yourself. Get a badass unique drone. I didn't expect it to be like Racters. I was just hoping I'd find some sort of unique special drone.

But nope. Turns out it wasn't even a battle drone. Just a lame mission item.

They need to step up the unique gear and abilites for the main character a bit next time.

yeah It isn't so much that I"m weaker.. because your really not you seem to easily get 25% more karma at least than your allies.

Its feeling so generic...
To use movie examples.. You''re sort of Hawkeye without the tricky stuff. You are effective and very needed.. But your standing next to a guy shooting lasers, a indestructable force of nature, a famous super human, etc.. You feel pretty... generic like anyone who had trained as much as you could fill the spot and really they could.
Your basically Hawkeye without special arrows or bow.

Which admitidly is why I'll try a mage next.. I love riggers and usually do a rigger decker right off the bat but this game isn't easy with money.. and while it's cool your main character feels like a tagalong and I've always had problems with that (though once I had 3ap it was fine.)
If there was another special grenade launcher I was going to go with rigger, auto loading grenade launcher decker.. would have been neat. As it stands the main generic gren launcher isn't very efffective sadly.

Your character is a fresh runner too.. So he feels even more generic. and honestly feels so weird when people start talking about how MC is some famous runner now.. it can't have been more than a month or so, and I can't imagine your doing *that* many more runs than anyone else.. So the sudden fame felt pretty... wrong as well.
So that stacked with the genericness of my character. For me I mean. probably doesn't bother others but it kind of just.. knocked out my perception of the game. In Dragonfall and Returns your a seasoned person with a history and contacts and even a rep to an extent.

random sidenote: I so... soo want that mine gren launcher as a standard varient from now on. Or the mines she can set! How come I can't buy those sorta things?

Elemetnal grenade launchers or like bolt/flame throwers would be pretty awesome and semi unique.

Oh.. and I wish the taser was still a thing. I'd be prett happy with being the taser ally for gaichu and the brother.

A heavy weapons line might be good too.. one that increases gren launchers, miniguns, add in flame throwers, bolt throwers, tasers, Dart guns that do poison or bleed.
That would add so much interesting I think

Honestly I am amused to an extent though.. Because of how generic I am, and how rapidly I became famous... In my head I"m simply imagining my character being pretty damn normal and just lucking his way into fame, fortune and very strong allies.

OH found some cool ones!
Charisma 2, when you go after the plastic man head south from the entry to that mission.
You find Zaak from Berlin in his own shop! You can talk him up and he gives access to several special weapons.
a taser, a smg that hits nearby more readily, a shotgun that strips armour on every shot.

If only that came early in the game
voidlight Oct 13, 2015 @ 11:41am
No way! I'm about to play that mission, so I'll be sure to tell Zaak hi.

I always assumed that Hong Kong was the origin story for my runner, since in the other two, you've been running the shadows for a while. I never feel generic bcause I roleplay pretty hardcore, and I try to give my runner a lot of personality. My dude is a fish totem shaman in denial who loves decking, and has a passing interest in drones. A few points into conjuring let's me read people's aura's and get all the shaman flavor options, but then all my serious karma is in decking. And a couple of points in rigging gets me a sniper drone.

Pretty satisfied so far.

I played an open handed fighter. took 2 points in adept to get the killing hands and magic cover bonus. 3 points in conjuring for totem, went with the one that gives +10% dodge. I feel i should have taken the one that gives accuracy the +5% accuarcy instead cause im still gettting hit pretty easy. (that is with 4 in quickness and 4 in dodge).

anyways played without cyberweps and only used open hand. was pretty generic and crits would not cause AP dmg (with 6 in unarmed)
justicar347 Oct 13, 2015 @ 7:59pm
I just want Izis's napalm grenade launcher. That alone would make me very happy.
Zwordsman Oct 14, 2015 @ 11:15am
Yeah I was truly hoping for more unique Main Character weapons.
like unique grenade launchers. unique mines or bombs,
flame or bolt throwers.
Long range tasers or shock webs.
stuff like that. Pretty simple to program and all still.
maybe just add a new line of weapons "heavy weapons" or "special weapons" that unlock skills for the variety of weird weapons.
